Two weeks since the storm, and by most accounts, we're making real progress in our tiny town. Houses once broken disappear overnight, leaving empty spaces; others, chimney-less and battered, cover their gaping roofholes with tarps, until the valley below the town hall begins to look like a patchwork quilt: patches of peaked sky blue, newly exposed summer lawns, lumber, the stone grey of bare foundations. People go to work, and school. The local news moves on to other topics; there are long moments when I forget that the place where I live and love [...]

On 7th December 1989 Whelans opened it's doors as a music venue on the southern outskirts of Dublin. Check out this site for a detailed history of Whelans; http://homepage.eircom.net/~lh anlon/History.html "One feature of the bar is the Stone man, a life size statue of a lone Dublin drinker propped against the Stone Bar. The statue is made with fired wood chips, a sort of complex paper mache." ... taken from the link above! Fast forward to 2009 and alot has changed in Dublin and Ireland since the post Commitment and Joshua Tree days! [...]

I am becoming increasingly aware of Ollie Cole whose debut album is almost ready for release. The former 'Turn' frontman has completed a whole host of gigs recently including the IRMO showcase and a Bell X1 support. This Saturday he is headlining the Revolver Gig in Radio City with the fine Alphastates in support! I checked out the 'Turn' website recently. It features Ollie Cole news as well as news on the drummer who is also in Little Palace and Gavin Fox the bassist who is in Concerto for Constantine. There was a post about the [...]

Please forgive the non music post but on Sunday I'm running my first (and last) London marathon. With 7 weeks training missed due to a severe case of dodgy knees its pretty terrifying but with luck, crowd support and a force 9 wind behind me I might just finish the thing. It would be nice to beat the guy in the full deep sea divers outfit but I'm taking nothing for granted. There doesn't appear to be a charity that cares for lanky people with knackered knees into their dotage so thankfully any money raised will [...]
