Here's the top 50 acts in Ireland according to my humble tastes. The list acts as a guide to the recently released music which excites me at this moment in time. It excludes bands not currently working in Ireland or who have been dormant for some time. So in basic terms here's a list of bands to watch out for on a random night in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Dundalk etc .... 50. Heritage Centre http://www.facebook.com/theher itagecentre [...]

Dublin folk band 'Junah' are back with a new EP entitled 'On Waves' which is launched in The Grand Social on April 14th! 'On Waves' proves to me that Junah are one of Ireland's best bands! Junah have been around for ages and ages and are still at the point of releasing singles and EPs. Does this mean they'll never make it as a successful band? It just means that they are perfectionists and want to release music which [...]

Have you got to the stage where you hate Christmas songs? Are you at the point that if you hear one more Shaken Stevens or Shaken Shane MacGowan you'll go mad? Well this list is for you. Here's the best ten tracks from Irish artists released before 2011 that I think fits the Christmas mood. These are reflective songs with thought provoking lyrics that should be heard by the masses! 1. Pearse McGloughlin - Passion Song [...]

I love the concept behind this music festival happening in Dublin city centre on Saturday 30th October. Oxjam 2011 Wrap party consists of 30 bands, 10 venues and 1 low price of a fiver! The bands playing on Saturday are: 7 Summits Bi Polar Empire, Cocophone, Elavator, EleventyFour, Fiach, Fox E. & The Good Hands The Hot Sprockets Junah, Katie and the Carnival, Louisiana 6, Leaders of Men Me and the General, She's a Beauty, The Dying Seconds, The Fibbs, The Gandhis, The Koubas, The Rockets, The Raglans, The Sazzy Katz, [...]
Watch the brand new video from Junah.
When Junah get round to releasing their debut album it'll be filled with great songs. The band have been serving their apprenticeship over the last five or six years performing live, releasing a debut single and in recent months recording live performance videos of the band for YouTube. Here's the latest video to make it onto YouTube; 'Walk in Line' is an amazing song with one hell of a great drumbeat. http://www.youtube.com/user/Ju nahonline http://www.junah.com/

The Cold Pro Festival intrigues me! It's similar to The Sea Sessions but takes place over the June Bank Holiday weekend and takes place in White Strand, Co. Clare. The line-up is impressive with many interesting international artists such as Peter Hook, Kate Walsh, Jamie XX, Scott Matthews and North Atlantic Oscillation. However there's a great line-up of Irish acts booked as well. Here's a mix of the best music to offer at Cold Pro. THE BIG TOP [...]
Today's the day when the full Top 50 current Irish artists list is complete. There's lots of great Irish artists I've excluded from my list due to not releasing any material in the last year and a bit. Artists such as The Frames, Lisa Hannigan and Junah, as well as artists that don't do it for me like Bell X1, Fight Like Apes and there's a fairly decent question mark over Declan O'Rourke! One artist I'd have loved to include is Gemma Hayes who is on the verge of releasing a new album. As Friday is [...]

..... taken from the Redradar post Fox E & The Good Hands - I Like It Curvy .... I'm delighted to share the new single by the most entertaining band I've seen live this year. Fox. E & The Good Hands can be described as a funky Imelda May but to be honest that does not do justice for Eimear Fox's outstanding vocals. The band have style, confidence and a swagger about them which infuses their live performance. A superb band to watch [...]

Nope The Top 50 isn't the name of a new band although it's not the worse name for a band! It's the time of the year where for aesthetic purposes I list my top 50 Irish artists .... at the moment ... living in Ireland ..... who have released a single/album ..... and who pay me backhanders! Over the next 2 weeks [Monday - Friday] I'll be working up the list five acts at a time and telling the world why each [...]
Junah are headlining a wonderful Folk Night at the Purple Room this Friday.

Next Friday I'm beginning what I would hope to be a regular Folk night in Drogheda's 'Purple Room'. The Purple Room is a great intimate music venue in Drogheda. It has a capacity of 250, with comfortable seating, Bar & Smoking terrace. The gig will be followed by DJs until the wee small hours! Here's a video from Joy Booth recorded in 2009 at the Le Cheile Festival!
Ronan from Swear I'm Not Paul published a new list of 10 anticipated 2011 album releases from Irish artists. Here's the 10 Ronan albums chose: Bell X1 The Brilliant Things The Cast of Cheers Lisa Hannigan The Holy Roman Army Jape LotusEater The Plea The Riot Tapes Tenaka Read all about these albums here: http://www.swearimnotpaul.com/ 2011/02/list-most-anticipated- irish-albums-of-2011.html Here's my list of 10 different albums which I'm looking forward to hearing this year. I adore Junah. Their vocal harmonies and delicious folk sounds are simply superb. They've been quiet of late but I think the plan is to release their debut this year with a big tour of Ireland. http://www.junah.com/ Check out this video for the song 'Burning in the Hallway' which recently appeared on YouTube!

I'm out of town for a few days from Saturday and won't be able to update the site until next Wednesday. Here's a list of great events happening over the next few days and a few good tunes to go with them! Enjoy the gigs and the tunes and remember to befriend a musician if ya like what you hear! Friday and Saturday Night in The Grand Social are two wonderful Oxjam gigs. Check out the quality line-ups. [...]
