Mother FUCK have I ever been going to some concerts lately. TV on the Radio @ the Hollywood Bowl, 9/24/06 TV on the Radio, "Let The Devil In" - It's not that I don't think highly of TV on the Radio 's sophomore album - far from it, as there's simply no set of aesthetic criteria I can hope to personally uphold by which Return to Cookie Mountain isn't at least as accomplished as Silent Shout or Sateenkaarisuudelma or Through the Windowpane [...]
The wonderful Domino Records, home of Clinic, Four Tet, Franz Ferdinand, The Kills, Stephan Malkamus, Jim O'Rourke, The Pastels, Preston School of Industry, PSAPP, and more, has bestowed upon me three new and exciting bands to take a gander at. So, I have decided to make one ginormous post including all three reviews, putting them in the order I listened to them and, ironically, enjoyed them in (least to most). Archie Bronson Outfit-Derang Derang This British trio (featuring Sam Windett, Dorian Hobday, and Mark Cleaveland) was a suprise hit for me. After listening to [...]
I can’t stop yawning. My back hurts, my eyes are dark, and I constantly complain about how tired I am. I refuse to believe that I have begun the long decent into old man’s land. For goodness’ sake, school starts this week; I can’t be that old, right? And with these thoughts going through my head for the past few days I thought it necessary to put together a mix to get the blood flowing back to

So when I grabbed the new rapture and tv on the radio albums last tuesday, I also ended up getting the Junior Boys album, "So This Is Goodbye" which also came out at the same time. If you're unfamiliar with the Junior Boys, they are an electro-pop duo from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The sound is sort of low-key house meets depeche mode. A little less preachy than depeche mode though. These songs, as the album title implies, are songs of longing. It sounds cold, but sexy at the same time. can you imagine the [...]
Some have called Junior Boys’ So This Is Goodbye a travel disc, a companion that is demanded on cross-country outings, train rides through Eastern Europe, and a nostalgia inducing remembrance drug. My first impression on Junior Boys new electronic popscapades is more time travel to a decade stained with neon, “Skinamax,†and high hair than post-graduate excursions in order to “find oneself.†Upon

Funky Friday Fourpack White boys bringing the funk in their uniquely white way... Junior Boys - Double Shadow Blogger favorites return with their second album of wistful, glitchy synth pop, with one foot in today's (and 1983's) world of technology and the other firmly planted in the soft rock of the '70s. Justin Timberlake - Pose (featuring Snoop Dogg) [...]
Nicolas Makelberge - Dying In Africa ( MYSPACE ) Blowing my mind right now. This song sounds like Peter Gabriel fronting the Junior Boys, assuming the Junior Boys were operating in the late 80's with a more carefree, less moody aesthetic. I doubt Peter Gabriel would use the same visuals to express his undying love (the strength of amor weighing heavier on one's mind than famine), but in all seriousness this track is on repeat for the next 4 hours. Deal with it. Oh, look at that! [...]
Junior Boys - In The Morning (featuring Andi Toma) I'll tell you what, I've been waiting on this one for a while, so thank you Jeremy Greenspan (the man behind the name) for making it worth it. I'll gladly admit that I'm a Junior Boys fan - I heard their song "High Comedown" back in the beginning of 2004 and had to hear more - I knew I was hooked then. Their first full-length record, Last Exit, came that same summer, and is fantastic. A must for electronic and pop music fans. Put it on the next time you're...

Junior Boys , the pride of Hamilton Ontario, released their new album So This Is Goodbye a little bit ago in Canada, but now it's also coming out on Domino Records . Pitchfork gave the album an unheard of 9.1! Anyway, here's a couple of tracks from the album, and you can decide for yourself if Pitchfork knows what it is talking about when it comes to the funky beats of Jeremy Greenspan and Matthew Didemus. Download [...]
Pop/Electronica. Jeremy Greenspan and Matthew Didemus blend mescaline rhythmic sounds, tepid electronic beats with a late-night voice and the world likes to call them, Junior Boys. "In The Morning"... sabas.jud.as-new indie music messiah

Playlist: New Releases of Note (09.12.2006) So while I've only posted on the new ones from TV on the Radio and Yo La Tengo , there were a ridiculous amount of fine releases dropped yesterday. Here's the other releases that have peaked my interest (and popped into my Sansa:) Junior Boys - SO THIS IS GOODBYE Sounds so smooth and slippery I'm sliding [...]

This week brings us a ton of amazing new releases. Probably one of the best weeks of new music this entire year. There were so many albums that i'm cutting the samples to only one track instead of the usual two. A lot of these i'm only listening to for the first time like Bettie Serveert , Richard Buckner and Favourite Sons to albums I can completely recommend to anyone from Brazilian Girls , Junior Boys and Yo La Tengo . There [...]

Three items: This is the sexiest song I've heard in ... well, ages, really. Sorry to be the last person on this bandwagon, seriously. Everyone was telling me about this record, and for some reason, I just kept acting like I had no idea who Junior Boys were. Duh. Junior Boys -- In The Morning Junior Boys -- In The Morning (Alex Smoke remix) Junior Boys -- Bellona My neighbor is totally running away [...]

So, if you haven't been neglecting every other music blog out there for the past couple of months, I'm pretty positive you're familiar with Junior Boys , and their new record So This Is Goodbye . And aside from the fact that it got a 9.1 from Pitchfork and everybody tends to overhype the 9.0+ bands of 2006 (with exceptions, of course), this electronic group actually packs quite the punch. The album itself is very raw and inviting to a broad range of sound, whether it has to do with distorted synths or barbershop [...]
