In an effort to have the best summer ever, pretty much all of us from The Wild Honey Pie will be piling into a car and going to one of the world's most important and notoriously awesome festivals - Newport Folk Festival . Given that the event is curated so flawlessly, the choices we will be forced to make during that time will be epically tough. To make your life (and ours) a bit easier, we've gone through the lineup and highlighted our favorites. The What Cheer? Brigade [...]

Tomorrow sees the start of the marvellous Truck Festival near Oxford. We went last year and had a brilliant time and are thoroughly looking forward to this year's event where the line-up includes Gruff Rhys, Graham Coxon, Saint Etienne, John Grant, The Young Knives, Edwyn Collins, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, The Duke & The King, Tunng, Justin Townes Earle, Alessi's Ark, Sea Of Bees, Pete & The Pirates, Caitlin Rose, Lanterns On The Lake, Cashier No. 9 and (as the cliché goes) many, many more. There will also be another Truck America this year in [...]
We've been watching the proliferation of music festivals in Florida over the last few years with great interest and this morning a new player has emerged in the form of the inaugural Orlando Calling festival. Produced by Festival Republic, who organize the Reading and Leeds festivals in the U.K., Orlando Calling features a genre-defying lineup that should appeal to a wide range of music fans. The event will take place at the large Citrus Bowl football stadium in Orlando on November 12 -13. Saturday (November 12) and Sunday's [...]
The mysterious is over; the lineup for the inaugural Orlando Calling music festival is here. Set to take place November 12-13 at Orlando's Citrus Bowl Park, the festival will feature an eclectic mix of modern rock and classic rock, hip hop, R&B, and country, with acts like The Killers, The Raconteurs, Pixies, The Roots, Kid Rock, and Bob Seeger & the Silver Bullet Band topping the bill, according to Billboard.com . Billboard reports that the festival's first day will lean toward a more modern sound. Joining The Killers, The Raconteurs, Pixies, and The Roots will [...]

Roskilde - Whoever does the music programming for the Roskilde Festival really must be commended. Having already seen acts as diverse as Portishead, Kylesa and Shangaan Electro, the remaining days proved to be equally eclectic and perhaps even better. Things started out on an interesting note with post-punk/industrial/metal pioneers Kiling Joke . Clad in a camouflage jumpsuit and often lumbering across the stage like Frankenstein's monster, singer Jaz Coleman took on the role of an angry prophet of doom. His between song banter consisted of a series of Howard Beale-esque rantings like "the European Union is in trouble," [...]
Check out Justin Townes Earle's fantastic cover of Buddy Holly's off of the Rave on Buddy Holly tribute album available here . Always one of my favorite Holly songs to begin with, loving Justin's take on this.

An album of Buddy Holly covers is pretty daunting. He arguably invented rock 'n' roll before the age of 22. His backing band, the Crickets, supposedly inspired the Beatles' name. And Rivers Cuomo looks just like him. Fortunately, the artists covering Holly's biggest hits on Rave On Buddy Holly are allowed to interpret the songs however they want. Certain artists bring more of their personalities to the table—Paul McCartney's spit-flying screaming on "It's So Easy" and Patti Smith's Spanish sweet nothings on "Words of Love", for example—while others, like too-cute-for-school She and Him, stick to sunny '50s pop [...]

Facebook Sometimes I wonder if Mates Of State get tired of being described with various synonyms for "adorable", but if so they've no one to blame but themselves. Rather than release the black metal opus we all know they have in them, the husband-and-wife duo of Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel continue releasing records of irresistibly sweet and catchy drum-and-organ power pop, a trend that seems set to continue with the September 13 release of Mountaintops , their first album of original material since 20082s Re-Arrange Us [...]
Wild Flag is something of a web phenomenon, gaining loads of notoriety before ever releasing any music. It helps, of course, that front-lady Carrie Brownstein and Wild Flag bandmate Janet Weiss ... Continue reading "Wild Flag, Justin Townes Earle and a Heaping Pile of Other Show Announcements" >
Check out Justin Townes Earle's debut music video from Harlem River Blues. The single "Slippin' and Slidin'," shows a gorgeous, rather intimate look at the musician's adopted hometown of New York City. Earle will make an appearance this week in NYC as part of the Celebrate Brooklyn! series, then he's heading out on tour throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada (including shows with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit). We're like Pavlov's hounds at the mere thought of new music from MOKB-approved troubadour Justin Townes Earle , but word on the street is that we'll be waiting for the foreseeable future. However, earlier today, JTE did give us something new to gnaw on over at Paste , a clip for Slippin' And Slidin' , the first official video from his celebrated Harlem River Blues . The video was directed by joshua black wilkins, and features JTE sporting specs and doing the brooding rockstar thing [...]
