Hey guys, you failed me on this one. This snuck under my radar for the past three months, until today when I got my ears on it for the very first time (thanks to Confusion.) That's a tragedy. K. Flay has been on the scene for a bit, first grabbing ... Read More

IG88 takes the immediacy out of K.Flay's catchiest song and laces it with a skeletal beat. The new backdrop sucks a little life out of the bounce behind "The Cops," but with a song like this, that makes sense. From IG882s SoundCloud description: "In an odd combination of inspiration and shame, IG88 felt compelled to [...]

It's nearly the end of the month and it's clear to us all now that April just plain sucked (unless you got married or whatever - congrats). But for the US as a whole, and Texas and Boston especially, kind of a shitty time. So let's just all collectively exhale and try to start May off on a better note. I made this mix for you including new tracks from k-os, Das Racist, RZA, Shlohmo, The Hood Internet, Lakutis, and Zilla Rocca so you can start early. Love you guys. : Dilated Peoples, Havoc, And Guru - Worst [...]

Two of our favorite hip-hop artists have collaborated together...again. We have been following both K. Flay and Danny Brown since late 2011/early 2012. And now it's been just over a year ago when the two first hooked up. In March of 2012, they dropped a track "Party All The Time", which was a K. Flay remix. Now they are back again with the brand new "Hail Mary". Both are not only great MC's, they both also share a passion for electronic music. Just wait until you hear this eargasm. [...]
I have a big fat crush on Ivy League graduates turned musicians. It's because despite all the success they could have had with their alumni network and fancy degree, they chose to risk it all and make art. Intelligence is sexy, which is why Stanford graduate K. Flay is a straight ten in my book. She has just released a new track, collaborating with Danny Brown , and they both go HARD over an electronic beat. The first ten seconds alone is enough to catch attention, and as she comes in, she spits as hard [...]
It's Monday, which probably means it's now time to atone for some of your more inappropriate escapades from the past weekend. California femcee K.Flay recognizes that, although she's not about to admit to being a sinner. Hoping to relive some of the memories she made (and presumably forgot), K.Flay pulls off a delicate balancing act between sultry vocals and provocative lyrics over some opaque and buzzing production from Felix Cartal . Meanwhile, Danny Brown continues on his recent rampage of absolutely murdering guest verses. By now, you should all be familiar with the Detroit spitter's frenzied, and almost deranged style. While [...]
I have no idea who K.Flay is. Never heard of her, but her first impression is a good one. Why? Because she proved she's got some bars, recruited Sunset favorite, Danny Brown, for her latest track, Hail Mary, and showed that she can hang around with him. Danny Brown is more of a household name now a days, as he's worked his way into Sunset's hearts over the past few months, and doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. The bass heavy, smooth-electronic, grimy production with K.Flay's delivery [...]
West coast rapper/producer extraordinaire K.Flay teans up with Detroit hip hop sensation Danny Brown on this electro-based track. It's a ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/news/ download-kflays-hail-mary-f-da nny-brown/73335/

As the lead up to Danny Brown 's hotly anticipated new album Old kicks into gear, it looks like the animated Detroit emcee is ramping up his output-and, as usual, he's rolling in from left field with something a bit unexpected. On "Hail Mary," indie rap favorite K. Flay enlists Danny's help to absolutely pulverize a slinky, buzzy electro beat. It's a Danny we've come to know well, volume and energy turned to 11; it still works in technique and the visceral response it elicits. So little in rap sounds like Danny at his manic [...]

Welcome to Friday Mixtape 187 and the weekend! I took this week's photograph at the world famous surf spot Teahupoo in Tahiti . My camera wasn't metering properly at the time but I still managed to get a few decent images. It was an amazing place I highly recommend that you go there, or at least chec some videos of Teahupoo on YouTube . Next week @DorothyJS and I are going on another RV adventure. I need some help with guest mixtapes during that time. Please email FridayMixtape@gmail.com if you want to [...]

K.Flay drops her latest single "Hail Mary" featuring Danny Brown & produced by Felix Cartal, premiered earlier on Noisey. The song is about being confused and messed up and wishing you could go back somewhere but not knowing where that is. Which I feel like a lot. Which maybe means I had a past life as a possum or something. Felix and I worked on the track together, but it felt like it was missing something, so I hit up Danny, who killed it. via Noisey

West Coast rapper K.Flay might have recently released her Ghost mixtape, but that's not stopping her from dropping even more music. She just shared a new banger, "Hail Mary", that finds her teaming with the king of collaborating aka Danny Brown . Armed with a heavy beat from Felix Cartel, the two MCs strike a sweet-snarling juxtaposition and Brown absolutely loses his mind on his guest verse. Seriously, he's absolutely off the wall (no MJ) and it's wonderful.

There's something appealing about vulnerability. Music is art and art is expression, but so much of the time it ends up being an act that fails to live because it lacks humanity. Being vulnerable can go terribly wrong—it leaves you open to criticism on a personal level, often times yields corny material meant for a diary, and can make you look whiny if you don't keep it in check. For K.Flay, vulnerability seems to come naturally, and instead of making "The Cops" feel corny, it makes the song feel like an honest one. Veering away from the typical [...]

The 5th annual 35 Denton Festival kicked off last night in North Texas. The fast growing gathering features over 150 acts, one of the most exciting is indie hip-hop pop sensation K.Flay . We have been following her since seeing her open for Grieves in 2011. When trying to decide on a video selection from the list of artists performing, I was really excited to learn she just dropped this brand new music video today! Shot and edited by Mariana Blanco, the song "The [...]

K.Flay - West Ghost (ft. Allen Stone) The realest rhymer out of Stanford is back with a mixtape, called West Ghost and featuring this collaboration with Allen Stone (the self-proclaimed hippie with soul). Turn it way up, shake your ass, and chew on the soulful grit these two put together. Then get out and catch Flay on tour because I’ve heard it’s a damn party when she’s on stage. // https://soundcloud.com/kflay/k -flay-west-ghost-ft-allen

I stumbled upon K.Flay a few years back while watching MSG Network believe it or not. They had a SXSW special going on after one of the Knick games. Watching K.Flay on the SXSW stage I was immediately drawn to her energy and stage charisma. After watching that show and finding some of her music, you can tell she is a hip-hop artist. Her new project West Coast shows K.Flay's growth as an artist. Besides Hip-Hop she touches the pop, electro and even soul genre. Check the stream below or download West Coast here .
