K-os (pronounced 'chaos') is a rapper/singer from Toronto that is perhaps best known amongst the indie kids for his guest bit in the song "Windsurfing Nation" from Broken Social Scene's self-titled album. I'd heard of him before then, but it was that track that finally led me to check out his stuff, and I've got to say, K-os is one MC with true cross-genre potential due to his willingness to break from hip-hop convention and the simple fact that he's just good at what he does. His previous albums have shown he's talented as both a [...]

Lots of the music blogosphere is not very hip-hop inclined. Its true, the majority of music blogs, including this one, tend to focus on guitar driven indie rock or maybe some experimental stuff from time to time. Granted, music blogs are all about recommending what the writer enjoys, but I guess there are just more opinions (or laptops) in the possession of indie rock fans. Thats not to over generalize, since I try to journey outside of that box whenever I can, and Im usually happy that I have. Such is the case with [...]

Another installment of the weekend mini mix today. With a Super Bowl Theme involved. Enjoy the tunes..... Mudkids - Rock N Roll (Go Blue!) COLTS 1986 Bears - Super Bowl Shuffle Will Smith - Miami (Site of the Super Bowl) Morrissey - Everyday is like Sunday [...]
Today officially marks one week until my beloved Chicago Bears play in Super Bowl XLI (That's 41 for all you Romaphobes). So, I wanted to make sure I made a post before all the hoopla begins. I've compiled a few "Sunday Songs" that I feel are quite applicable to next week's game. So get out the chips and salsa and begin. " Sunday Bloody Sunday " - U2 Now I don't expect it to be bloody Sunday, but you have to admit that this is one of the [...]

When the words "rock" and "rap" are both used to describe the same music, it's easy to assume it's just some trash. I mean, let's be honest here, the late 90's nu-metal explosion didn't exactly leave the best taste in anyone's mouth. But change some of the ingredients, throw in a little disco, and a lot more soul into the music and see what happens. K-OS (Knowledge of Self), born Kevin Brereton, successfully decorates his hip hop with anything he sees fit. Regardless of how fans of the gun toting bling bling school of hip [...]
This funky Friday is a step away from the usual sources... Of Montreal - Gronlandic Edit Kevin Barnes' latest offering as Of Montreal is another mind warping trip through a genre blender. It's funky, it's twee, it rocks and then it doesn't, it's a bit new wave-y, there is a song that goes on way too long, and then there is this lovely bit of Krautrock along the lines of Fujiya & Miyagi. The
Check out this song by KOS. I posted a video of it a while back. Here's the song. HERE >

I don't know about you, but I've often pondered the existential question that all of us, if we're honest, must someday answer: If you attended Bayside High, which Saved By The Bell character would you be? Finally there is a quiz to help you make that all-important determination with great questions like: Everybody's got a dark side. What's yours? a) I've moved a lot because my dad's in the military, so it's difficult for me to make friends. b) I was addicted to caffeine [...]

First off, I don't even know if k-os' new album Atlantis: Hymns for Disco is available in the U.S. I've looked at the usual spots and can't find it, other than having to pay exorbitant prices to get it as an import . That means you should buddy up with a Canadian right quick and beg him to get this album and send it to you. Born in Trinidad and raised in Toronto, k-os (stands for knowledge of self, pronounced like "chaos") draws from so many styles [...]

There is a new K-os album coming out soon out right now titled Atlantis: Hymns For Disco . I heard this was coming out a while back but never got any news about it for sometime till few days back. Its doing rather well in Canada as he usually does but not a blip on the US charts. Its not as tight as his last album, Joyfull Rebelion and unlike his previous two albums is has less social commentary which was something I really enjoyed about those albums. He is still a talented producer and [...]

It means chaos. But I'd rather talk about K-os. K-os is one of the more interesting acts to come out of Canada over the past few years. K-os blends fresh hip-hop beats with a distinctive Michael Jackson sound. His versatile voice drives his music in a soulful direction, but he skillfully manages to harness his talent to create foot-stomping, finger-tapping, and intellectually stimulating music. You see, K-os is more a philosopher than a socially conscious rapper. His music is refreshing from that respect. It's an idea that hasn't often be pursued by many [...]
I re-watched Spike Lee’s documentary When The Levees Broke on the weekend. If you haven’t seen the film yet I highly recommend it. Hopefully I’ll be catching the Departed and The Prestige later on in the week. In a rather nostalgic mood today, which explains a few of the “random song†choices. Random Song 1: The Dirtbombs - Do You See My Love (For You Growing) Random Song 2: Femi Kuti - Truth
A thousand apologies, but I've been working, and I mean, WORKING, 16 hours a day for about 20 straight days, leaving little time for anything other than work (besides sleeping and drinking, that is). I've got a free moment now, though, so I thought it would be nice to supply you beautiful readers of mine with a few songs that I've been listening to when I've had a chance to listen to anything. Mike Shinoda feat. Lupe Fiasco & Ghostface - Spray Paint : a simple song, and a little bit of fun, to [...]
If you hadn't realized by now, k-os is probably my favorite MC, up there with Mike Skinner of the Streets - and easily my favorite "traditional" MC on the planet. He has a new album coming out on October 10th, called "Atlantis: Hymns for Disco", and the tracks that I've heard so far are fucking brilliant. The first single, called The Seekwill, is an upbeat song in the style of a faster Man I Used To Be. More than anything, it's got some sweet samples (Public Enemy for one), and that's alright in my book. [...]
Hey, it's Charlie here reporting in again. I'm still trying to dream up that woefully brilliant original content to rock all of you (and finding the time to write it) so in the meantime, here again is another taste of what's going on in my corner of the blogoverse, Nerd Litter: A damaged house in the Lower Ninth Ward I was in Valencia, Spain when the newspapers started screaming. The
