Kaka 's self-titled debut album from a couple years ago was a bit of a sleeper. A few really great tracks (such as "The hotspurs" ), but it never seemed to get much traction. Time again for the purging of the perpetually packed Licorice Pizza mailbox. It seems like there are more and more two-piece bands these days. Maybe it's the economics of maintaining a four- or five-piece group; maybe it's just a trend, I dunno. The lack of a stage full of musicians isn't keeping the duos from putting out some decent music, as you'll find here with Dynasty Electric and The Boy Least Likely To. Kaka, aka Richard Karlsson, just released his self titled album in the UK on March 9th by way of Stockholm based label Despotz Records. Kaka started his musical career as a guitarist, singer and songwriter in the indie band The Tambureens in the late 90's. After The Tambureens disbanded, Kaka joined The Mo, which toured frequently and released two albums, with the song "Nostalgia Locomotive" taking a no.1 position on the Swedish single chart. Kaka wrote material during this period and eventually left The Mo and subsequently spent a year and a half recording the album. audio: [...]

Unfortunately Kaka isn't the footballer Kaka, but a Swedish artist of the same name. Either way, both produce beautiful stuff. Kaka is just the type of Swedish band that the hordes will expect at SXSW. He's got that euro pop sound down cold. He's also got that cool detached Swedish vibe going on. "It's A Longshot" is from Kaka's debut record which came out in Feb. of 2008. It's a catchy bit of electro fluff. See Kaka live at the Elysium on Wednesday the 18th. It's A Long Shot
