Lando Kal (a.k.a. Antaeus Roy) is one half of West Coast beats production team Laser Sword . As he once again hits out on a solo vibe, we see him getting down and dirty with the Detroit V Berlin influenced EP for the stellar Hotflush label. There are also hints of jungle and rave in there to create what is for us his best EP to date. Due to land on the 9th April, this is yet another Hotflush essential purchase.

Kal are a band of 21st Century Balkan gypsies from the suburbs of Belgrade. Their just-released debut CD sounds like a combination of Tom Waits, Gotan Project, Nino Rota, and Goran Bregovic. Or something like that. Some instrumentals, some ballads, some circus music, and some down-tempo brooding grooves, lots of terrific violining, produced in elegant retro-3D by Mike Nielsen who also did fine work with Natacha Atlas, among others.
