Idioteque - Radiohead @ HP Pavilion, San Jose, 2012-April-11. The incredible lighting as seen in the picture above is by Andi Watson ( interview ) who has been doing Radiohead's lighting/stage design since almost the beginning of when the band first started touring nationally. Thank you W.A.S.T.E. for the incredible seats. One of the best Radiohead shows I have ever seen, and that's mainly because of the lighting. When it comes to the progressive ingenuity of yesteryear few records could even conceive of doing battle with Gloss Drop : an explorational work of avant-garde invention, it saw the streamlined New York outfit punch well above their weight. It is and was their opus, and it remains revolutionary. This time however, although it may again be Battles' name on Dross Glop (the droll epithet attached to this collection of radical overhauls) and even if their madcap freeform fingerprints may be smeared indelibly all over it they've handed the gloves over to [...]
It's a point of fact right now that we've reached some sort of internet remix saturation point. It's like not a single song can exist without a selection of alternate interpretations. In the right hands, ... read more

You should have seen the deliberation room after we finished the lists. Papers scattered across the floor, blood and coffee stains on the carpet, I think at one point Kenny threw his laptop at Stuart (it just barely missed). But it makes sense, because each one of us are so passionate about the music we loved this year. So, check out what music meant most to each of our wonderful writers- Also, be sure to check out our top songs of the year (100-51 / 50-1 ) and top albums of the year [...]

The best albums are much more than a collection of stand out songs. Like anything successful, a great album finds multiple parts coming together as one; accomplishing moods, textures, and developments not possible by any one singular piece. The best albums force you to take a step back, to not only look at each moment but to examine how that moment fits into a larger picture. Perhaps most important, the best albums are constantly evolving begging for repeated listens to show you all of their ins and out. Check out the 50 albums that kept us coming [...]
David Letellier aka Kangding Ray - VERSUS (by kangding ray ) Versus is a sound installation consisting of two kinetic sculptures placed face to face. Each sculpture is made out of 12 triangular panels, hinged and powered by six linear actuators, controlled by a specific program. At regular intervals, each sculpture produces a sound, simultaneously recorded and analyzed by the opposite, which then moves according to the frequencies of this sound. Like a feedback loop, it then plays back the recorded sound, with the errors and disturbances caused [...]

Kangding Ray's beats veer away from hardcore-Berghain, four-to-the-floor pummeling, but remain distinctly techno, danceable and even possibly futuristic. The beats roll smoothly out of the speakers and somehow weave in distorted melodramatic chord changes that Tiesto would swoon over if he could detect their subtlety. Released on the experimental electronica label of choice Raster Noton, the sound design is impeccable- perhaps to the point of sounding a little too perfect. Whatever its merits, OR’s beauty will not be found through its imperfections or accidents. Whilst maintaining some of his previous album Automne Fold’s more populist and accessible melodic [...]
Tu espérais une playlist d'été ? Tu es bien mal tombé car Get The Curse te livre ici l'exact opposé. En effet, une bonne partie de cette sélection touche à la frange la plus expérimentale de la techno. Celle qui n'a que faire des mélodies, des nappes rêveuses ou des beats dansants et se concentre [...]

New video for the title track from Kangding Ray's "OR." The Germany-based electronica artist's latest album of the same title is out now, but not in America. It's currently on raster-noton , but there's always digital if the import prices are killing you. Anyway, the tracks on OR feel light, but they groove hard. Let's say they're punching above their weight. Considering how understated the music is, this guy packs a lot of different sounds and subtleties into his tracks. If you dug on this one, try another track from the LP right [...]
It was always going to be an interesting collaboration, not simply because of the multi-disciplinary and multi-national backgrounds of the artists involved in this second installment of INSITU , but also the context of the subject of their work - Fort Canning Hill in Singapore. Known as the Forbidden Hill in pre-colonial times because of its believed designation as the burial site of Malay royalty, the Hill was subseqeuntly appropriated by the British as Government Hill and later fortified and named after the Governor General of India. No longer a fort today, the hill nonetheless remains a site bearing [...]
German electronica producer Kangding Ray dropped his third LP back in May, OR . But of course, it hasn't caught a ton of buzz in the U.S., because the only label its been released on is a German one . Still, the ambient beatscapes painted on OR are a great listen. The evolving beat on "Leavalia Scheme" is backed with a wall of light distortion. It's a pocket of quiet bliss in a world that grows louder every day.

Raster Norton has a long tradition of picking out the best in minimalist electronics. Most of their catalog files largely into the headphone meditation category and swims through binary to a palette of grey, black and white, so its always with some surprise that R-N producer David Letellier peppers so much color amongst the massive bass valleys that inhabit his Kangding Ray project. Vocals and guitars find their way through the blips, twisted by a minimalist mind and dilated by the cavernous force of bass usually reserved for dubstep. The album attempts to come to terms with disillusionment in a [...]
