The indie rockers specialize in mellow pop rock in the same vein as Death Cab for Cutie. Songs like "Heart Be," from the band's debut Each Other All the Time , conjures in the same tender feelings accompanied by bouncy guitar and floating harmonies. LISTEN: " Heart Be ." [...]
Add another annoying item to the list of things Justin Vernon had nothing to do with leading up to the February 12 Grammy Awards. First, there was this treacherous ice sculpture of a poster, and now
Owl Mag photographer, Don Albonico, takes us for a ride in his blue 1970 Mustang Mach 1.

XV is the shit! The Wichita, KS rapper spits a lot of positivity and I love it. Born Donavan Johnson, his name XV comes from the roman numerals for 15 - the age at which he began to create music. His favorite rapper is Andre 3000 = Excellent. Enjoy this music. Awesome - XV ft Pusha T - VA Beach's Pusha T has been all over the place, thank Jah. I love dude's flow. The Clipse are my shit, and Pusha T deserves the successful solo career he's built himself. [...]
Chicago, by way of Kansas, singer-songwriter Hawley Shoffner shows some off some Feist-y vocals on the latest edition of Lightbox Sessions . Shoffner, who plays a guitar that is bigger than she is, opens the session with "Stopped Me Dead." The song is anchored by her endearingly warm voice. The session also includes a brief interview with Shoffner who discusses her the first 45 single she ever owned, how easy the transition to Chicago has been and how she picked up the ukulele. Bonus ukulele performances are attached. Take a gander and check [...]

Fourth Of July's sophomore record "Before Our Hearts Explode!" is a searching, scathing expose' of the space between two people in the endgame of a relationship. Distances, infidelities, drunk dials and rumor mills all collide in a flash to light up the landscape of losing love. With their pleading hooks and helpless candor, the songs on "Before Our Hearts Explode!" capture the racket of heartbreak and the wild catharsis of making music out of how it feels. This week see's the release of How To Go , the brilliant new EP from Scottish four-piece Trapped In Kansas . Both epic and playful in equal measure, it's a constantly inventive record that is not only the best thing the band have ever done but is also one of our very favourite releases of the year. Glacial, post-rock style guitar parts wash over epic, straight-up rock songs; the kind of which Biffy Clyro would happily give limbs to still be able to write. We enjoyed How To Go [...]
Wither'd leaves, wither'd leaves, that fly before the gale: Withered leaves, withered leaves, ye tell a mournful tale, Of love once true, and friends once kind, And happy moments fled: Dispersed by every breath of wind, Forgotten, changed, or dead! Autumn leaves, autumn leaves, lie strewn around me here! Autumn leaves, autumn leaves, how sad, how cold, how [...]

Roderick Harris has released his new mixtape Thrice Greatness . The former Kansas Jayhawks football player, performing under the name MerQury, is only one year removed from his playing days on the field. The Texas native shifted his focus solely towards music after his final season at Kansas. He says in the intro that on "October 28, 1987 [his] path to greatness began..." He makes many references to his football career and, I'm sure the KU fans will love this, even takes a shot at his former coach Mark Mangino in "A Letter I Wrote." Overall, [...]

Kansas city Art/Punk band SSION are getting ready to release their brand new album BENT in June 28th. I haven't listen to SSION since their album "Fool's Gold" back in 08, but from the look of their brand new track "Listen to the Grrrls", they still haven't skipped a beat. Their music is unapologetic and their shows are simply outrageous (so definitely worth your while), in fact they will be playing a 3 day show in NYC in May 13, 14, and 15 at the MoMA PS1 concert. SSION - Listen To The Grrrls [...]
New Vizzy! XV was gracious enough to provide us with a new track, even though he just released, Zero Heroes last week. He decided to put out this track because of his loyal fan base and r

The Appleseed Cast Three what-is-this-mysterious-white- light-streaming-into-my-house reasons to head on over to the Bottom Lounge tonight... 1. It feels like Kansas post-rock quintet The Appleseed Cast has been around forever. And the band has seven full-length albums to prove it. Along the way they've grown from that first generation Emo band that sounded an awful lot like Sunny Day Real Estate at times to a experimental rock behemoth that veers more into Mogwai territory on its latest album Sagarmatha with some songs, [...]
