![UN @ Drake Underground (CMW 2013) [March 21, 2013]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4869106_lg.jpg)
In between going from this to the Great Hall. I wanted to show my support for Pop Montreal with their first of two showcases. This one was at the Drake Underground. I only went to see UN play. This was a great set! I really danced myself silly to their blend of electro-new wave dance music. Sadly I didn't grab their album. Maybe next time! If [...]
![UN – UNtitled [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4724468_lg.jpg)
Wow! I wasn't expecting this! I swear Montreal is definitely a hot bed of what is unique in the music scene. I happened to see them play at Pop Montreal 2012 at the opening party . UN (Pronounced when you say UNtitled) consist of: Kara Keith (Vocals, Sound Layering Wizard) Jen Reimer (Sound Engineering, Drums) Here is a small blurb: It took 5 attempts, 3 years of [...]

Kick This City – Kara Keith My review of the latest effort from The Headlights is on its way, but in the meantime, here’s a song from Kara Keith that would have slotted in wonderfully on their 2006 gem Kill Them With Kindness . It features a bluesy piano riff, synthesizers to provide some atmosphere, and a chorus that comes crashing back at you like a volley from Roger Federer.
I really could use a new graphic for Best of the Month. I'll get on that right after I kick my addiction to video games on xbox live. Honestly, it's been hitting me hard the last week or so. I apologize for the lack of new and brilliant posts, but you need to check out the live tracks I posted last week by Zach Williams . Honestly. For those of you who are just stumbling by this little blog today let me explain what the BOTM series of posts is. Every month [...]
Continuing with my Canadian series, this week I present Kara Keith 's latest single, Kick This City. Ms. Keith previously fronted the band, Falconhawk - which I had never heard of and seems rather ordinary on first listen. To be fair, Ms. Keith's EP as a whole sounds rather ordinary. Kick This City is simply a standout track from a journeyman artist. Kara Keith - Kick This City (More thorough reviews can be found at Herohill and Obscure Sound [...]

This is Canadian Music Week so to mark the occasion, three records from bands who are not playing Canadian Music Week. Huzzah! The D'Urbervilles / We Are The Hunters ( Out Of This Spark ) The debut full-length from Guelph's D'Urbervilles crackles with the anticipation of some bad shit going down. The tension of the band straining to bust loose is tangible [...]

PETA have taken aim at the costume designers behind Amy Adams' new film - for dressing the star in vintage fur. The star admits she'd never wear fur for real, but had to sweat it out in 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day'. PETA spokesman Michael McGraw says, "Costume designers need to know that whether the animals were killed yesterday or 50 years ago, they are not ours to wear." Costume peeps are now quaking in their furry shoes? [...]

Kara Keith - "Kick This City" What I love about this song is...well, there's so much since there's so much in the song. At first you might think it's just another piano driven singer/songwriter tune but then the synthesizer kicks in, the childlike choir, and the horns. It's quite quirky and cool at the same time. Great song. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Rockers To Swallow" Rhythmic, gnarly guitars combined with Karen O's equally gnarling voice = Simply awesome. Together with "Down Boy", this is [...]

It's been awhile (since November, actually) but with the glut of decent music coming into the QBiM office lately, I thought it was high time to resurrect this weekly weekend feature. And to make this kick-start even sweeter, here's your chance to win a copy of each of this week's featured CDs! All you have to do is: a) join the Quick Before It Melts Facebook group ; b) write a message on the wall saying you want the four free CDs; and c) sit back and wait. Easy enough? Though so. Don't worry if you don't [...]

The following is a repost of this original article, in no small part thanks to the emergence a direct, free, and legal download of Kick This City. So there's a couple of things one can do to get noticed in the wild and wily world of indie music. You can decide to put out an EP which contains an exceptionally catchy tune, something along the lines of Kick This City , a synth-n-riff bouncer which is iced with enough new wave influence to have as much depth as it [...]
I'm back! The chaos has subsided and I am ready to write about music again. I've kinda missed it actually, I keep coming across cool songs and I'm like, oh I should make a post about that... if only I had time. Well, now I do, um, somewhat. Anyway, because I took so much time off, I've put together a special extra long mixtape (16 songs!) so feel free to download them all and burn them onto a cd for your friend and pretend like you put the whole thing together yourself. It's a bunch of new stuff [...]

Today I present to you Kara Keith , a singer / songwriter hailing from Calgary, Alberta who put out a self-titled EP, her fourth CD, at the beginning of last month that's just dynamite. She was formerly the front-woman for another Canadian band, Falconhawk , and she's got a voice and style that instantly reminded of Liz Phair 's older work (especially the opening track, Gorgeous Gets The Gold , circa Exile in Guyville era) mixed with Au Revoir Simone 's newer work. The five tracks on the EP go by [...]

Even though some artists clearly have the distinguished ability to write quality songs purely on their own, others tend to hold a form of bitter reluctance when given the opportunity to collaborate with others, even when they realize that the result has an overwhelming possibility of being improved upon. This stubbornness is often tragic, hindering the output dramatically and occasionally reducing the original artist to a form of mockery. Sure, individuality is a trait that should be admired, but it should certainly not be an overbearing or dogmatic trait in appliance to songwriting. After all, some musicians who many of [...]
Kara Keith, from Calgary, Alberta and previously of Falconhawk, will release her self-titled solo debut EP on Saved By Radio on Feb. 12. The EP can be purchased in the Saved By Radio online store. "Kick This City," from the release and posted below, is an engaging, driving track that makes its name with synthesizers [...]

Kara Keith used to front the band Falconhawk – which is a fantastic name for a band, if you want my opinion. As the primary songwriter and leader of the band, her solo music doesn’t fall far from the tree. Or you could say birds of a feather... Kara writes poppish piano-based songs that could easily be mistaken for Metric or Emily Haines. She has released a four CDs on Saved By Radio Records , including the most recent self-titled EP. [...]

It's been a year and a half since I left Regina, and I'm only now starting to do some of the things I came to Vancouver to do. I mean, I needed a change, that much was sure. And for a while, change was enough. The novelty of shedding my by then five-year-old routine was exhilerating. I was doing different work in different clothes. Well, mostly the same clothes, really. But now I feel overdressed in the same clothes that used to feel underdressed. So Tuesday afternoons now have a purpose, which is welcome and overdue. Now I [...]
No Kids - "I Love the WeekEnd" Well, if it isn't my little bird friend. What have you been up to, little bird? What's that? You're voting today? Hey, that's great, little bird. Who are you voting for? Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry. I know it's none of my business. I know that's private. Hey, where are you going, little bird? Can I come? Thanks! ...Woah, flying is great! Hey, little bird, seriously, I'm sorry about back there, I--woah, a McDonald's!--I mean, I [...]
