We cover a lot of dance music here at Inyourspeakers, and a lot of what is not explicitly dance music could generally be danced to. Not so, as one might guess from just the title, with “Scattered Moments of Pulverized Explosions” by Another 7 Astronauts. read more

esce oggi per Karate Body Records l’album omonimo del trio femminile a cappella Sandpaper Dolls (in copertina, fotografate da Mickie Winters ):
Hope everyone has been enjoying their weekend, I know I have. I've also been enjoying some good songs & videos and am sharing them with you all now in this Weekly Roundup.
The handful of regular Thought on Tracks readers should be able to detect a pattern in the type of music I promote in this space. I have a weakness for female vocalists, fuzzy garage bands, experimentation and Afrobeat influences - particularly in jazz. Louisville's Sandpaper Dolls has several of my guilty pleasures rolled into a single package. The experimental, female A Capella trio recently dropped their debut single " Swallow Them Whole ." Singers Suki Anderson, Amber Estes and Rebecca Dennison weave impeccable vocal lines, looped for added depth and layering. The result is an arrangement [...]

We all know that music festivals are more fun with your friends, and to say that Johnny Quaid AKA The Ravenna Colt is a friend of Forecastle curators My Morning Jacket would be a severe understatement. After all, Johnny was one of the band’s original members, staying on for six years until an amicable departure in 2004 sent him out west, to California. Quaid spent his days quietly working as a carpenter and focusing on his writing, more than two thousand miles separating him from home. Another six years passed. As the opening line of his 2010 debut [...]

Buckets o' new stuff on SoundCloud from Averkiou, Grinderman, Manor, Averkiou - "Fuzzy Photograph" from The New Imperative (EP) out 2/10 on Sound Study Fuzzy guitars? Reverb-drenched vocals? Should I be stumbling out of a bar following my afternoon classes? This Gainesville (FL) quartet takes us back to those halcyon days of old (or at least my early college days), as they serve up a grunge-tinged dose of shoegazing that recalls My [...]

In this edition: We review Whistle Peak's "Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls"; check out singles from Milano Sun, Guy Capecelatro III, and I'm In You; and an excellent bunch of videos in this week's Ramblings. Review: Whistle Peak - "Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls" On February 14, Whistle Peak is set to release their second studio album, Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls . The Louisville-based quintet cleverly mixes a blend of southern blues, folk and rock to [...]

First, this one hit my inbox the other day and I really enjoyed it. Then I decided to post about it. Then I realized I had no idea what I wanted to say about it, by way of defining their sound etc. So I'm gonna borrow a particularly apt description from kickkicksnare : "Whistle Peak, from Louisville, Ky., is pop music in disguise and experimentation at its core. It is music that takes you on a journey of the imagination, inhabiting fantastical lands while drawing from life experience. It is the particular phrased in the universal. It is children’s stories [...]

Wings Won’t Behave è il singolo degli Whistle Peak che anticipa l’uscita dell’album Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls, prevista per il 14 Febbraio per Karate Body Records: W ings Won't Behave by Whistle Peak

New band steps comfortably into the 1990s. The great R.E.M./U2 collaboration that never happened? That's the impression you might get from Black Kite's opening hymn, "Highways", but then Silver Tongues shifts into high-energy noise with "Ketchup"--which is still not too far from early U2--before getting all acoustic on the beautiful and mysterious title cut.Shifting from one mood to another is not really a forsaking of style or vision, it's a demonstration that this Kentucky outfit has the talent and ability to reach...

Black Kite is by no means a perfect album, but this debut from Silver Tongues shows skyward ambition, opening with a prayerful exhortation and closing with an angelic vision. In between, the effervescent vocals of David Cronin echoes through the songs, sometimes with the church hall ambience of a Fleet Foxes hymn, and at other times booming with the polished bombast of My Morning Jacket. It's very much still a work in progress, with the band searching for its identity through the album, prompting the listener to look out for and witness the moments where they do [...]
