If 'Sacrilege' is anything, then it's a return to the roots. Listening to it made me feel very close to the band's early days, when the alternative trio made (if you ask me) their best music. After all, Karen O promised us a more rough-and-ready followup, similar in tone to their debut: "It's extremely lo-fi," Karen O told Pitchfork last month of the band's latest effort, Mosquito. Whenever a band held in such high regard as are Karen O's Yeah Yeah Yeahs return with anything that may be deemed an in any way subversive change of tact, there are always going to be dissenters up in arms exclaiming "Sacrilege!" and so forth. Which makes the title of this, the first thing proper to have been extracted from forthcoming fourth Mosquito (anticipated April 15th on Polydor ), that bit more apposite.
