Back in July I got to see Kashka at Raw Sugar Cafe . Now I got time to review this album before the summer ends! For those that aren't aware, Kashka is Kat Burns (formerly of Forest City Lovers ) newest project. It is a departure from the indie folk pop music and with the help of James Bunton ( Ohbijou ). Kashka is the moniker for Forest City Lovers' Kat Burns and her friends and collaborators. She started writing these songs in 2009 with the help of James Bunton ( Ohbijou , Light Fires ), where the two would collaborate over long distances (Bunton on tour with Ohbijou, composing beats in the van and Burns sequestered away on Toronto Island for a composition residency). The winter of 2011/2012 had Kat assembling what was to be her full length debut in Vichada; a recording process that pushed Kat to think outside her normal songwriting process and channel this new voice. The closest of seeing Forest City Lovers at NXNE was at the Analogue Gallery 's BBQ. There was only two of them there. Kat Burns and the violinist who I forgot her name. Forest City Lovers is a Toronto band that people should definitely need to check out. The band released their third album Carriage on June 22nd (Digital) and June 29th (Physical). All I can say is I can't stop listening to this album. It is a follow-up to their last effort "Haunting Sinking Moon". Its more daring than the last album. More of a fuller sound and unique instrumentation and vocals (Keep The Kids Inside). I think its very shocking to hear Kat Burns drop the F-bomb on Tell Me, Cancer. Nice surprise [...]
