![Kashka – Vichada [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4445296_lg.jpg)
Back in July I got to see Kashka at Raw Sugar Cafe . Now I got time to review this album before the summer ends! For those that aren't aware, Kashka is Kat Burns (formerly of Forest City Lovers ) newest project. It is a departure from the indie folk pop music and with the help of James Bunton ( Ohbijou ). Both have made 9 tracks (a bonus track if you buy from Bandcamp ) of fun pop electronica dancefloor music. [...]

You go through phases in life, it's just a given. Some times an abrupt change signals a transition from one frame of mind to another, other times it's more subtle. I can look back at the archives of this blog and see the phases I've gone through, and in some case, even track changes in artists I've written about. Take Kat Burns, for instance. She first entered my consciousness as the voice behind Toronto's Forest City Lovers, back when I was deep in a torrid love affair with all things acoustic, folk, and pop. Now that I've been [...]

It was a very hot July 22nd in Ottawa. At least it didn't rain. Here is 4in1 Acoustic Park Sessions #5 that took place at MacDonald Gardens Park . Decided to have it under the nice stoned gazebo. It was more like 6in1 but this was another good installment. Playing at the session were: • Factory Owl • Alex Silas • Kashka [...]

When Forest City Lovers decided to call it a day and held their last show on April 19th in Toronto. I was sadden by it and wished to be at that show. Well one chapter ends and another begins. With that Kat Burns has a project called Kashka . It is a departure from the indie folk pop music we were familiar with from Forest City Lovers. With the help of James Bunton ( Ohbijou ). They have created a fun electronica dancefloor music. [...]

Kashka is the moniker for Forest City Lovers' Kat Burns and her friends and collaborators. She started writing these songs in 2009 with the help of James Bunton ( Ohbijou , Light Fires ), where the two would collaborate over long distances (Bunton on tour with Ohbijou, composing beats in the van and Burns sequestered away on Toronto Island for a composition residency). The winter of 2011/2012 had Kat assembling what was to be her full length debut in Vichada; a recording process that pushed Kat to think outside her normal songwriting process and channel this new voice. Look [...]

I attended a DIY zine launch on June 19, 2011 . The zine is called Static Zine and it is a collective lifestyle and arts zine run out of Toronto. The first issue came out during NXNE. The free event took place at two different places. First it was at Sky Blue Sky which is an amazing sandwich place on 605 Bloor Street West. The sandwich is so good and they have some softdrinks like Cherry Coke, Crush in glass bottle and the different [...]

The closest of seeing Forest City Lovers at NXNE was at the Analogue Gallery 's BBQ. There was only two of them there. Kat Burns and the violinist who I forgot her name. It was a nice beautiful set as always and played at the back of the gallery. Great way to enjoy Forest City Lovers on a bright sunny day. [...]

Filed under: Video , Exclusive Everyone's favourite nature-loving, indie folk-pop outfit Forest City Lovers is back from the wilderness with an acclaimed new album 'Carriage,' a successful US/Canadian tour and now a brand new video for the single 'Tell Me, Cancer.' "I spun characters out of a number of [real-life] situations and wove them into a tongue-in-cheek narrative about being bad while being good, and what your mother might say," songwriter Kat Burns tells Spinner. Look at the crowds at Raw Sugar Cafe on September 17th. Wow! It was a wonderful September 17th evening at Raw Sugar Cafe. Playing at the show were: Forest City Lovers Loon Choir *Photos on the wall are by Becca Wallace . I was very surprised the show sold out. [...]

Forest City Lovers is a Toronto band that people should definitely need to check out. The band released their third album Carriage on June 22nd (Digital) and June 29th (Physical). All I can say is I can't stop listening to this album. It is a follow-up to their last effort "Haunting Sinking Moon". Its more daring than the last album. More of a fuller sound and unique instrumentation and vocals (Keep The Kids Inside). I think its very shocking to hear Kat Burns drop the F-bomb on Tell Me, Cancer. Nice surprise [...]
