A musical collective with 35 members churning out an album with 41 tracks? Sounds like a logistical nightmare in anyone's book. But as Quakers show, where there's a will there's a way. The latest (and I'd wager largest) hip hop act to roll off the Stone's Throw production line was born out of the frustration of its three producers, who simply weren't hearing the kind of album they wanted to hear. Rather than having a moan about it though, Fuzzface, 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst decided to embark on a rather ambitious journey to make [...]

Quakers is a 35-member hip-hop collective who's base is made up of three producers – 7-Stu-7, Katalyst and Fuzzface, who, to many, is better known as Geoff Barrow of Portishead. Their latest track, "Russia With Love," features Coin Locker Kid and was produced by Katalyst. These aren't your standard 4/4 hiphop beats, so those of you out there that can't handle a bit of abstract hiphop may not find this to be your cup of tea. However, for those of you that can hear the greatness in this track, I suggest you go out an buy their album because it [...]

Geoff Barrow never stops. The Portishead man's Invada label goes from strength to strength, with a new compilation demonstrating the imprint's ever-broadening horizons. 'Your Breath Smells Of Paco Rabanne', by Australian producer Katalyst , is the standout from that collection - a Beatles-sampling oddity that manages to sound like Madlib, Beans, and Dabrye all together. Katalyst will also appear on Barrow's forthcoming hip-hop project. The first release under his new Quakers moniker is out on Stones Throw later [...]

★★★★☆ Australia's Ashley Anderson is a one-off when it comes to treating funk with respect and seeing how far he can push his luck. Where there's a time to be serious, with some fine old-time skanks and soulstress supreme Stephanie McKay helping put tears on pillows, there's also a license to get iller with samples ("Pot or Pills") and hip-hop to get you out your seat from obliging rhymers as willing to show off their vocal chops as they are the skills of those on the instruments behind them. Which in turn makes you wonder what's [...]

As promised, here is the official soundtrack of the 4th season of Grey's Anatomy. Other than Grey's Anatomy, other hit shows like Gossip Girl, Chuck, Fringe, Glee, Dollhouse, One Tree Hill, Ugly Betty, House and many more. You've got to give a hand to the music supervisors of these shows for their success. The music is not perfect, but it's certainly entertaining. The show goes mostly for indie favorites like The National, Ingrid Michaelson, The Gossip, Tegan and Sara, The Bird and the Bee, Bon Iver, Feist, Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley, Frightened Rabbit, The Republic Tigers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. We went on a short vacation in the countryside this weekend, here's 5 of the tunes that stuck most in my mind during hours of idle car time. The Bamboos cover Kings of Leon , Dom um Romao track found on Donnaslut . More Congos . The Bamboos - King of the Rodeo feat. Megan Washington Dom um Romao - Amor en Jacuma The Congos - Sodom and Gomorrow The Clarendonians - Goodbye Forever [...]

We were shooting for our dayjobs yesterday from 1pm to around 2:30am-ish. We feel like dog shit in a garbage bag right now. This track, remixed by Remdog (who we've shown love to before ) is an excellent way-too-early remedy of downtempo beats and stuttered drums, with a Cee-Lo Green styled coda sung by Steve Spacek. You can hear the original, funk and soul take on he Aussie producer Katalyst's page . What a difference a drumbeat makes, right? (mp3) Katalyst - How Bout Us [...]
First post in May, a month that has proven itself to be beautiful (weather-wise) so far, so I'm in that sunny mood despite the fact my car is intent on terminating its own existence and that someone I had a lot of love for passed away (Rest With God Baby Ali). A couple of tunes that I happen to have been sent at just the right time really fit my feelings at this time. Analogic & Rashid Hadee have a long player named 'Serenade For The Moment' coming and if [...]

OK, Good Vibrations '08 is coming up this weekend [YAY!] , so for this week I'm gonna try my best to source a nice big slab of works that you HAVE TO DEMAND from the artists on saturday.
