Kate and After , whom I've written about before, is back with a new single, "The Game". According to the band, this is a first taste of their upcoming debut album, which will be released during Fall this year. The collaboration with the producer Henryk Lipp continues and I think the sound feels even better now compared to the earlier EP. More open and bigger, and singer Magnus Lindqvist has never sounded better with his special expression. Find Kate and After on their site and on Facebook . Listen also on Spotify . [...]

Back in 2008, Kate and After came to fruition in Gothenburg, Sweden. Magnus Lindquist (lead vocals), Carl Nelvig , (Hammond Organ), Jonas Karlsson (guitar), Joakim Axelsson ( drums) and Kristoffer Sohtell (bass guitar) got together with the intention of creating a heartening sound. Kate and After Cheerful, catchy rhythms come bouncing out of the speakers, as Kate and After make full use of the Hammond Organ , but far from some soulless tat, they not only raise a smile, but [...]

Thanksgiving has come and gone and although it's not necessarily a "fun" holiday like Christmas, with all the build-up and presents and everything else that goes along with it, I'm feeling a little bit of let-down now that it's over. And I'm craving chocolate! I believe I'm a little pumpkined-out. To remedy my blahs, I thought I'd share a bit of Swedish indie pop with you. Kate and After are a five-piece from Göteborg, Sweden, and in addition to the usual complement of drums, bass and [...]

Who: Kate and After What: Indie pop, in a general sense - boisterous and cheerful, great for dancing about the room and singing along to. Where: Unsurprisingly from Sweden (Gothenburg), apparently the kingdom of happy indie pop. Why: Because they do what they do really well. They remind me deeply of the first Stellastarr* album, which I loved so so so much, but they never lived up to again. Kate and After picks up where Stellastarr* left off after their debut [...]

"Things to Do" is the debut EP from Kate and After . I wrote about them in January and it's obvious that a lot has happened since then. They called in Henryk Lipp as the producer to the EP and together they have created a new sound for the band. It's more energetic and heavy while the hammond has found it's right place and adds a nice retro luster to their indie rock/pop. The vocals are dubbed, more edgy and brings an up-to-date feeling of the sound. Well, it feels like the entire [...]

The Swedes may have not invented pop, but they keep it alive. Kate and After , a quintet from Gothenburg, have just released their debut 3 track EP Things To Do . with the classic tone of a Hammond B3 the Sixties, arguably the Golden age of pop. come to mind, but the sharp vocals propel the listener straight to the 21st Century. With a versatile bass player in their midst to push things forward Kate and After have a future playing sunny Summer festivals all over Europe. Kate and After : [...]
Kate and After participated with a song in our Christmas special in December and I thought it was time to listen to more tracks from the band. Below you can find two songs to listen to and download. I think that Kate and After radiates a joy of playing and an energy that is contagious. It's about indie pop, but there is a feeling in the sound; some of it because of the hammon organ; that gives me a lot of retro vibes. I also have to mention Magnus Lindquists vocals and his expression that [...]

Oh my are we getting snow here or what? Lots of it is falling, more on the way and I'm out in it all day today, ugh. So, comfort yourselves in the knowledge that you work in cozy little office cubicles or at home, you lucky little drones. I've been slaving away on a mixtape which you will soon find over on the pages of Slowcoustic , a fantastic blog by the wonderful Sandy! So, I'm exhausted and not entirely ready for all this nasty weather, but I'm still thinking of you, darlings and thank you for stopping by! [...]

Well I did it. I waited `til after Thanksgiving to post my Christmas mix. So far a lot of these songs are from last year (or years past), hell I even recycled the photo. I’ll do my best to update this mix as new songs appear. I love these songs. They are some of the best Christmas songs you’re likely to hear and for a large part they are ones I’ve dug up first. So Enjoy and Merry Christmas (three weeks early). P.S. I’m so low tech it’s not even funny, so if someone wants to create a [...]
