"I'm looking for something that'll...break through. You know?" James Woods' Max Renn yearns in David Cronenberg's 1983 cult classic Videodrome . Oh, how things have changed. In today's day and age, we've drowned in media. It's swallowed us. We're nothing but a bubble amidst one infinite, engulfing abyss. Intimidated? You should be. With each passing second, you're losing opportunities to take advantage of a culture that's moving ahead and at an exhausting rate. You could very well be alone...left behind...abandoned. Terrified yet? Yes? Well, that's more like it. -Michael Roffman President/Editor-in-Chief

Australian singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke has the pedigree of a classic musician, having obtained degrees in music from Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Queensland University of Technology, in addition to winning a slew of prestigious prizes in her native country. Yet the music she makes is decidedly pop, albeit with odd bits and flourishes weaved throughout to make it a truly one-of-a-kind musical experience. Together, those influences and that aesthetic make for one wildly whimsical songbird. For the clearest sign of Miller-Heidke's unique creat ive worldview, we offer up the video for "The Tiger Inside Will Eat The Child". Consider it a [...]

Check out this absolutely stellar performance from Kate Miller Heidke off her new album, Liberty Bell out now in the US.
It's the fast cuts with dance beats where Miller-Heidke shines most. Her voice seems to smile at the listener, whether she's warning about "The Flasher" or complaining about the street people in "Holloway Park". One could read (okay, purposely misread) Brisbane-born Kate Miller-Heike's Liberty Bell album as a song cycle about a girl who seeks freedom and adventure and ends up dying in a terrible plane wreck before she can act. After all, the first track is, "Are You Ready" and last one is "The Plane Is Down". In between, the narrator seeks relief from boredom and plans a [...]
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Kate Miller Heidke Video: 'Are You Ready?' Highlight: '"Are You Ready?' is a very simple, repetitive, joyous pop song," Heidke tells Spinner. "For the video, we tried to make it look like the credits of an '80s kids' TV show. However, there are some sinister undertones with crop circles and children who shoot laser beams from their eyes."

It's that time again! Following are my Top 25 Albums of 2010. Like 'em or not, these are the albums I've personally enjoyed and listened to most often in the past year. Click on the album titles to read the full reviews, purchase the albums, and, in some cases, download mp3s… *Honorable mention to Florence + the Machine's Lungs , which would have been #2 on this list had it been released this year. A very unlikely pairing, songbird Kate Miller-Heidke covers Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady" accompanied by guitarist husband, Keir Nuttall. Another, more obscure cover song, frequenting their setlist on their current US tour, " The Tiger Inside Me Will Eat The Child ", by fellow Australian artist, Fatty Gets A Stylist , which you can stream the original below: The Tiger Inside Me Will Eat The Child - Fatty Gets A Stylist

I really didn't want to enjoy Kate Miller-Heidke 's 45-minute set last night in Washington, D.C. My other concert reviews on this site have been full of praise and I wanted to write a scathing review; certainly the Australian's quirky pop, which I had only limited exposure to prior to the show, couldn't win me over. I even listened to some heavy-and-gloomy Black Rebel Motorcycle Club on the drive to the 9:30 Club , which recently won Billboard's 2010 [...]
The lead single Golden Thread features Matt Corby on vocals via Fasterlouder.com.au Flight Of The Crow is the remarkable result of UK band, Passenger 's intrepid journey, with Australian artists Lior, Josh Pyke, Katie Noonan, Boy & Bear, Kate Miller Heidke, Philadelphia Grand Jury, Brian Campeau and Elana Stone, Matt Corby, Jess Chalker and Dead Letter Chorus all lending their voices to this serendipitous creative venture. Flight Of The Crow was recorded in Sydney's famous BJB studios over February and March of 2010, and [...]

When I found out about Kate Nash 's sophomore album My Best Friend Is You coming out earlier this year in April, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Her debut, Made of Bricks , was one of my favorite albums of 2008 ( I wrote about it way back here). Unfortunately, much like the Pipettes follow-up efforts (although with no original members are they still really the Pipettes?), Nash's change of direction made me miss the old her. That's where another Kate come in: Kate Miller-Heidke . [...]
Top 4 reasons my dog will miss me tonight: ☛ Fitz & the Tantrums wind up their Spaceland residency; it's the last chance to catch them before their July 15 appearance at the Hammer Museum as part of the Also I Like to Rock series. ☛ Speaking of soul men, Eli "Paperboy" Reed plays the Roxy, and I was going to post the video for the title track to his album "Come and Get It" — but, of course, embedding of his videos is disabled because he's on one [...]

I hadn't intended to review Mountain Stage's July 18th FestivALL concert at The Clay Center here since I covered it for another publication, but Kate Miller-Heidke's performance was too magnificent to keep to myself and I can share more details here since Muruch has no word count. Kate was not only of the more interesting acts to have appeared on Mountain Stage, but she also possessed one of the loveliest voices I've ever had the pleasure to hear at the venue. Considering the avante-pop theatrics of her latest release Curiouser (click for my [...]

Aussie singer/songwriter Kate-Miller-Heidke performs with husband Keir Nuttall as they played an unnamed acoustic duet on a cold winter morning this past March at Austin's SXSW Festival. Kate is one of many who were at the festival who even with the best intentions we missed with 1800 plus bands performing this year. Another big festival is getting airtime on Youtube if you are like us and not able to make it. Check it out on the Bonnaroo Youtube Channel. [...]
Photos by Steven Alsedek and Andre Salyer It was a strange and wild drunken night on 5/21 for QC's Magic Wedding. Carnivores surprised us with a version of "Shout" with Dinosaur Feathers front man Greg joining in on vocals. Magicians pulled lights and chains from their throats. Swimming In Speakers brought everyone in and Project Jenny Project Jan rocked everyone out. Here's a glimpse of the night through two photographers' lenses.. [...]

Kate Miller-Heidke is a singer and song-writer from Brisbane, Australia. She has a pretty amazing voice and some pretty great tunes. When this track passed through my inbox I knew I couldn't pass it up. "Are You Fucking Kidding Me?" is a song about social-networking giant Facebook . This performance was recorded live at The HiFi, a local Australian venue. Her latest album, Curiouser , is actually a pretty great collection of songs. With the help of guitarist Keir Nuttall, [...]
Check out this hauntingly beautiful version Kate sings of Empire of the Sun's "Walking on a Dream". Kate is currently on tour here in the US and Canada . Also, Kate was recently interviewed and performed on NPR . Well worth a listen after the jump! Kate Miller Heidke - Walking On A Dream by theinsound
