The week leading up to Yom Kippur, The Jewish Day of Atonement, is supposed to be a time for self-reflection, culminating in repentance and a plea for pardon. And though I no longer fast, or belong to a temple, in the last few years, I have continued to use the opportunity as a chance to take stock of the soul, wandering into the woods or just taking a few hours on the front porch alone to make peace with the world both inside and out. This year, it doesn't take much soul-searching to [...]

I was never a real fan of goth-rock, though as I've written about before, pretty much anything that made the Top 40 in the 80s seems to linger in the minds and hearts of both my own generation and the artists it has since spawned. And The Cure was undeniably the most prevalent band of its type in mainstream mall culture when I was growing up: in my early adolescence, I dated several girls with somber black-and-white Robert Smith posters on their bedroom walls, and - looking back - can only suppose that the band's [...]

Today I share with you a guest post written by Jane, a frequent commenter here on MISB. A few weeks ago she suggested an artist that she thought I should check out named Kate York. I did, and enjoyed, and asked if Jane would like to share Kate with the rest of you, and here it is! I've never really had a 'best of' post. While I always found them interesting, I've never taken to task rounding up all of the albums I've either purchased or have been sent over the course of the year and whittling them down to a select ten that I felt were true standouts. I suppose I've always felt that as soon as I finalized my ten choices, I'd then discover a couple of albums I completely forgot to consider that might have otherwise had made the list. But this year, I'm willing to give it a shot. So [...]

Music City is the nickname for Nashville, Tennessee. When people hear Nashville, their minds undoubtedly go to cowboy hats, country music, and the ever loving southern accent. Nashville has a plethora of music genres and artists entering the city with a dream of making it big. "Look Out Music City 'Cos I'm Here Now and Ain't Never Leaving!" was a line from the movie Thing Called Love , which depicts the lives of singer/songwriters trying to make it in this overly saturated town. There are so many talented singers/songwriter in this city that it was hard for me [...]
Why do I bother?? I usually get around 300 hits a day here at TVV, with the highest reaching just about 500 on the day that I slagged off The Police reunion tour. I reckoned that I had got a lot of casual vistors passing through on account of the blog, for once, being topical. Yesterday, I handed the reins over to Mrs Villain and let her choose four songs that would otherwise never have made it
