I love a good break up song. The bitter ones, the angry ones, and most especially the reflective ones. Songs like 'Days' from the Kinks, songs that some how power through the heartbreak and the agony that is a breakup to realize that you would never give up all of that pain if it meant having to give up all of the amazing memories that led up that point. Katie Herzig's 'Wish You Well' off of her 2008 album 'Apple Bed' is one of those songs. "I will remember you [...]

Listen to "Charlie Chaplin" A few months ago, I went on the W orst D ate E ver. Oh I wish this was a dating blog. It's an... interesting story. But there's a light at the end of every tunnel, and that date's light was Katie Herzig . A few nights before we went out, Mr. WDE mentioned that we should go to Katie's show at Hotel Cafe. I'd never heard of her, but why not? If I didn't like him, I could lose [...]

Ahhh...one day, two great artists. Katie Herzig Katie Herzig - Wish You Well The one artist I get giddy around! One of the very few artists that I can say I've seen develop from performing bar gigs into headlining the last scene on Grey's Anatomy that made you ball your eyes out. Herzig's absolutely gorgeous song, "Wish You Well" was featured today on NPR's Song of The Day . Read [...]
This is a recently discovered song. Maybe that's why it managed to creep up this far on the list,...
Sorry this post is coming out a bit late today- I spent most of the day doing some last-minute shopping with family. And as it turns out, my nephew is standing behind my shoulder right now, wanting to be entertained, so I'm gonna have to make this short. Katie Herzig came out with her album Apple Tree much earlier this year, and although I know I'm late on this bandwagon, I wanted to share.
Here we are with Day 2 of the "Week of Bests" with Womenfolk's Best Album's for 2008 . As expected you might find the fairer sex represented quite predominantly ;-). Read on below and discover the beauty from the Women of folk or feel free to visit the original post here . ~~ I've never really had a 'best of' post. While I always found them interesting, I've never taken to task rounding up all of the albums [...]

I've never really had a 'best of' post. While I always found them interesting, I've never taken to task rounding up all of the albums I've either purchased or have been sent over the course of the year and whittling them down to a select ten that I felt were true standouts. I suppose I've always felt that as soon as I finalized my ten choices, I'd then discover a couple of albums I completely forgot to consider that might have otherwise had made the list. But this year, I'm willing to give it a shot. So [...]

In February Nasa sent Beatles music into space to reach Polaris by 2439, which scientists speculate should be about the time they discover acid. Part two of our best songs of the year focuses on the month of February. That month we saw new releases from Jack Johnson, Goldfrapp, The [...]

The Everybodyfields are coming into the studio today for a live session before a show later tonight at The Double Door . They'll be sharing the stage with Katie Herzig, McCarthy Trenching and HearYa Live Session alum, Samantha Crain . Looks like tickets are $10 for a great night of folk music. Don't let the image above fool you. Everybodyfields shows aren't your typical stage-diving band. Here's what the night will sound like. The Everybodyfields - Aeroplane The Everybodyfields - Everything is Okay [...]

Photography by Sabina You know your nerves are fried from work when, after an absolutely wonderful weekend, relaxing and fun, personally productive, including a little photo shoot, a huge 70 mile ride to the middle of nowhere (also called Olive Green, OH apparently) that included my friend & I getting lost (which is part of the fun of cycling), and a perfectly divine little date night with baby last night, that as you walk into work, you feel a giant weight suddenly sit on your stomach and your back, [...]

First I'd like to send a shout-out to all of my regular readers. You guys are amazing, seriously. It's not every day I get to wake up and find comments that cause me to leap around my room like I did today, so, thank you . You make writing this blog so much fun. Second, I'd like to introduce you to Katie Herzig. I've thrown up tracks by her in the past, but I've never given her the attention she deserves. She's a local here in Nashville, and she has more talent in one finger than in my [...]

Katie Herzig Im totally addicted to this genre. From Meiko, Lenka, Ingrid Michaelson and now Katie Herzig. Her songs are pure pop but the added whimsical sweet voice and wild-eyed lyrics fit perfectly. Her sound is not too weird and she doesnt carry an epitome of leave-me-alone-you-cant-unders tand-me facade. Just poppy pop as its finest as they say. Herzig's gifts as a songwriter have stood out perhaps due to the fully produced nature of her songs, recorded with care and a bigness that transcends the potentially damning status of just being another girl in Nashville [...]

Those of you who are regular readers know that my tastes run up and down the musical gamut, as do most of the blogs I read regularly. We do this to bring you the newest music first and to expose you to artists that you might not hear otherwise. One of the best at this was Nick over at Red Threat . That dude was always on his game, and I never left his site without downloading something . Today I went to pay a visit and found that WordPress had shut him down for too many DMCA [...]

Thursday feels like the real first day of the festival, which is no surprise really, considering the fact that there are fifteen different showcases for you to choose from, or hop in between. Yes, FIFTEEN. It's enough to make your head spin, which is one of the main reasons I decided to do these showcase-by-showcase preview posts in the first place. This is going to be a night of tough decisions no matter what your tastes in music veer towards - you've got several different brands of rock and singer-songwriter stuff to choose from. [...]
The real post is above, but I just wanted to get some music on the Hype Machine, as these tracks are so good, they're practically demanding to be heard by more ears. These came from last Tuesday's The Five Best Songs You've Ever Heard: Part 2 . A. Devendra Banhart - Seahorse ( Alt: YSI ) - Modern Jethro Tull? Hell yes. B. Katie Herzig - Shovel ( Alt: YSI ) - I think I'm breathing and that I have everything I could want. And then I hear her voice, and that [...]
In my time in this industry, I've spoken with the likes of Steven Tyler, Art Garfunkel, John Hiatt and several other acts with ease, charisma and self-confidence. Who is the only singer that makes me buckle under the pressure so much that I've only been able to muster a simple "hey, good show" (great original comment Bodie, really)? She is Heather Locklear to my Garth Algar? Sigh... Katie Herzig hails from Ft. Collins, Colorado, though she calls Nashville her home now. Back in the day, [...]

Official iTunes Katie Herzig Apple Tree Marion-Lorraine Records Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars I was extremely pleased when I learned that Nashville based songwriter, Katie Herzig had a new album on the horizon a couple of months ago. Her previous releases, 2004's Watch Them Fall and 2006's Weightless [...]

Caedmon's Call - Ten Thousand Angels Joe Henry - God Only Knows Katie Herzig - Sweeter Than This Lifehouse - Broken Patty Griffin - Up to the Mountain And a .zip file for convenience... I find myself yet again at the end of a very hectic week that hasn't allowed me the time to post the way I would like or the way people request. I hear ya, folks...I hear ya. And, if this weren't just a hobby, I might even apologize. Anywho...there were some fantastic songs that played last night from some of my very, very favorite artists so please check them out and enjoy them in the manner in
