The MOBOs have announced that Katy B is to perform at the award ceremony this year. This year marks the 16th MOBO awards ceremony and the "On A Mission" star is due to perform on stage at the event at the SECC in Glasgow on October 5th. More announcements on performances are due later in the week.

The U.K.'s annual Mercury Prize for best album seems more newsworthy than the Grammys to us for a couple of reasons. First of all, there's only one Mercury, given to one artist, not a jillion different awards for every genre, so it carries a lot more weight right off the bat. Secondly, whether it's because they've got a sharper crew doing the voting or just that the Brits are hipper when it comes to basic music savvy, each year's nominees are almost always pretty damn cool. The shortlist for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2011 Albums of the Year were announced by 6music presenter Lauren Laverne this morning in a special ceremony at London's Hospital Club. As usual, some of the nominees were expected to receive the prestigious industry nod, while some were definitely less than expected.
