Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground ::: Photo by Josh Just like Black Eyes & Neckties the day before them, Saturday's Block Party festivities could not have been opened in a more perfect manner. Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground serenaded and soothed our shell-shocked ears from the night before with their unique blend of vaudeville, pop, and psychedelia. Kay Kay's songs hit like a ton of feathers-the impact is unforgettable and strong, yet soft. Watching Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground perform-you feel it from head to toe; the music lands firmly in your [...]
While the music wasn't hook-filled, there were so many delightful disparate parts to relish, such a wave of delicious melody, that I found myself carried away in the bounty of the band. read more

It is pretty much impossible to categorize Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground's S/T album into one genre. The band's debut features a fantastically rich mixture of styles and sounds. Consequently, this celebration of such heavily textured music gives it a carnivalesque feel. If I have to compare, I guess Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground sounds feels like Portugal. The Man and "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!"... or dare I say Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band . This is one of the most ambitious and brilliant debut I have heard [...]

I'll apologise at the start for the lack of updates from me for the last month. Hectic doesn't even come close to summing up the last few weeks. There was the end of exams, followed by trying to earn some quick cash, followed by one amazing loved up week in Ibiza, then graduation. It's been tiring. Anyway, enough of the excuses. This compilation has been finished for a couple of weeks but I just haven't had time to upload all the tracks, which meant I couldn't let share it with you all. Onto the music. Here [...]
One of the Sasquatch bands I intended to do follow-up research on was Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, a weirdo psychedelic chamber rock group with seriously theatrical overtones. Their self-titled debut album does not disappoint; it's all over the...

![[Hypeworthy] Kay Kay And His Weathered Underground](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1023790_lg.jpg)
For some reason or another, I've been sitting on this gem (literally, post in draft form) for about two months. The hype machine (not the mp3 aggregator, but the intangible force that controls the production and consumption of independent music) works in mysterious ways-- if you've got a good pair of track shoes and you pick up some speed, you better not forget to tie your laces 'cause as soon as you stumble you become roadkill for the rest of the scene. Let's hope that didn't happen with Kay Kay . Please let that not be [...]

Thanks to The Good Pants for pointing me to this awesome band. The hiatus of Gatsby's American Dream has a couple spinners including Kay Kay & His Weathered Underground made up of bandies Kirk and Kyle with Cello man Phil Peterson. I think the most distinctive part of this band before the style is their utility of the fugelhorn and other brass. I love the sound. Imagine an old west parlor with that borderline out of tune piano, folky old show tunes, quick from subtle to chaotic harmonies, halfline Broadways, and almost too perfect [...]

Back in November of 2006, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground earned a spot on the assignments with "Hey Momma", a playful dittybop tipped slightly askew by muted trumpet and a circus-like jig rhythm. It was only available on their s/t cassette tape at the time. Finally, almost a year and a half later, Kay Kay's debut LP will become available on February 19th...on vinyl only (includes digital download). And it's still self-titled. The title doesn't matter because this record oozes The Beatles, Jellyfish, and Jon Brion in healthy doses, with a Pacific Northwest [...]

The best part of listening to thousands of submissions and suggestions from all over the map is that when a gem actually surfaces, you can see the highlights shimmering that much more clearly. In accordance with this thought, I'm completely blown away by the recently-acquired Seattle band Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground's self-titled debut, and I needed to tell someone. Kay Kay & co. have produced a modern psychedelic pop masterpiece: a diamond which is neither over nor under polished, a rare and precious offering full of inventively original works without an ounce of [...]

Well, just moments ago as I was logging to start this post, I realized that this is officially the 200th post here at ThaBombShelter. I started ThaBombShelter on Memorial Day this year, and here we are seven months later and 200 posts in the bag. What follows are the Best Songs of 2006 according to us here at ThaBombShelter. Often I would find myself listening to albums that weren't quite up to snuff to warrant a full review, but there was often that one track that was amazing. You may notice that a lot of the [...]

1. Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground - Hey Momma - Awww, this song is precious. I do adore me some whimsy! Muted trumpets, clarinets, and tacked pianos! I also find it humorous that it's only available on cassette even though it's brand new. So you could totally pop this in the '89 Escort and smile-bop down Colley Ave.[from s/t cassette EP| buy ] 2. Gotye - Learnalilgivinanlovin - This soul swinging throwback is as infectious as ebola, but instead of liquefying your internal organs, [...]
