Kazi unearthed an EP he did with Madlib back in 1996 called BLACKMARKET . BLACKMARKET was recorded at Madlib's bedroom studio, Crate Diggas Palace (Photos) in Oxnard CA on reel-to-reel tape. Kazi's first appearance on record was on Lootpack's Soundpieces: Da Antidote in 1999. The following year Kazi released the Madlib-produced EP Down for the Kaz and appeared on Madlib's Madlib Invazion EP, both on Stones Throw.

One of the benefits of being prolific is that no matter how large you get, there's a part of your catalog that will always remain secret(e). It's something everyone from Wayne to Lil B has cultivated and has allowed them to sustain a serious connection with their audience despite their mass appeal. Madlib is no different, and though his fanbase are more likely to dig in crates than wear chef's hats, the bizarre eclecticism, intentional messiness, and need to record every idea appeals to the committed. Otis Jackson Jr. first came to fame in Lootpack, whose debut included [...]
Caught this on one of the music channels the other day: The mind goes all a-boggle when it considers how many middle-aged INXS fans' mouths are currently frothing into Michael Hutchence cushion covers. The thing is, as a chartbound reappropriation of one of INXS's finest moments, it's not actually that bad. It's not going to appeal to anyone who owns a Kick t-shirt, obvs, but it recognises that there's no point trying to reinterpret or reproduce that riff - you might as well just nick it wholesale. Because [...]

Dear aspiring rappers/producers/etc.: I don't know any of these niggas you idolize or want to hook up with. Nothing about rockthedub.com screams " Cam'ron ", not any more than some other rappers. Why you feel that, by sending me three tracks and your contact number, I could somehow magically whisk these to Cam or one of his lackeys is beyond me. Not for nothing, dude does sound like Juelz when he rhyme: Kazie " Get Cha Money ". Nigga, at least give me a MySpace [...]

Slack posting again. Very poor show indeed. After a quick run through the major music web sites I can't seem to find anything about Kazi who made the track below which has got to be worth a mention in itself. He keeps popping up on various Stones Throw stuff and some of the smaller LA labels and he's well worth a listen. I'm a sucker for that slow, soul sample and this track is no exception. Plus, a Giles Peterson favourite from the multi talented instrumentalist Bonobo, from his 'Days to Come' album (again definitely [...]
