We can finally walk outside without jackets. It's so good that I feel the need to celebrate that. So, as I write with drunk, half-awake eyes... just bare with me. The new Bell Orchestre album sounds good so far. It's like sliding through a neverending icicle-tube. I started with the K.C. Accidental song because it's the song that I wanted to post on Friday. The sounds remind me of street or café chatter even though I was listening to it while cleaning out the closet. Pharrell comes on as we're getting dressed and instantly we become [...]

We cleaned our classrooms With fuzzy coconut shells And someone found A white mouse And on our way out Someone lost a shoe That was flung on a tree And the fortune kids Got on their private cars While I stopped at the store To buy a tiny bamboo stick Filled with molasses. K.C. Accidental - "Residential Love Song"

This could be the most interesting record I buy in 2009. Charles Spearin (of Broken Social Scene , Do Make Say Think , KC Accidental ) will be releasing an album (Feb. '09, Arts and Crafts ) called The Happiness Project . It will not sound like anything you have in your collection. Its a series of interviews with his neighbors based loosely around their concepts of what happiness is. With music. The audio footage was analyzed by meaning and melody; Spearin then blurred the line between speaking and singing by writing music [...]

Little Joy - "The Next Time Around" Speedy brown tricycle Won't you change me. Speedy brown tricycle Of my heart.

Before Broken Social Scene, Kevin Drew with Charles Spearin formed K.C. Accidental . I knew about this band but I've never listened any of its songs. It was hard but finally I found them and listened them... great!, totally instrumental ala Broken Social Scene (obviously) The funny part is that both albums can be considered as one whole work because the first one Captured Anthems for an Empty Bathtub has 12 tracks but the second half has "silent tracks", and the next album Anthems for the Could've Bin Pills [...]

The story of my life for the last 18 months has been a lack of sleep. It's made me sick, constantly fighting off various minor ailments and more serious illnesses that seem to build up overnight and grip me in the morning. It's made me sleepwalk through my days at the office and sleepwalk through poker games that inexplicably end at 1 am without any money being made by 22 out of 24 players. It's both the major subject of the novel I'm in the midst of writing and revising and writing and revising and the major [...]

I remember living in Toronto when Broken Social Scene's You Forgot it in People came out. It was the type of album that seemed to leak into the air. People were talking about it all over the city. Conversations with any music fan would invitably bend towards singing its praises. My roomate at the time brought it home soon after the hype started, and we were both blown away. It sounded like indie rock fiberboard...tiny pieces of bigger things tightly packed together and compressed until they took shape. It wasn't until later that [...]
