With the dust finally settled on their recent tour, Keane's Tim-Rice Oxley and Jesse Quin have opted to drop the rest of the boys at home and continue going pedal to the metal. As Americana-flavored Mt. Desolation , Oxley (who is handling lead vocals) and Quin will be releasing their self-titled debut on October 18th, and immediately play a handful of North American dates with a touring lineup that will reportedly include members of Noah and The Whale, The Killers and Mumford & Sons. I'm not sure that we necessary need another pseudo-supa-group, but with [...]
'I'm surprised that we've got so far with this, considering it was an idea born out of a drunken mess'. And so Tim Rice-Oxley explains to the crowd why he and Jesse Quinn decided to create Mt. Desolation . With both of the founding members coming from Keane , and Mt. Desolaton panned as an 'alt-country' outfit, I had mixed thoughts going into the gig. Housed within the wonderful decor and surroundings of Manchester's Deaf Institute, the gig began with the Watford born female trio The Staves [...]
When you think Keane the first thing you think of is alt-country right? Well it might be now. Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley has hooked up with buddy Jesse Quin to form the alternative country act Mt. Desolation. They release the self-titled debut from the project on October 19th. Here's the track listing for the record: Departure Annie Ford Bridal Gown State Of Our Affairs Bitter Pill Another Night
For most people, Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer; however, there are still two-plus weeks of official summer left. Yes, we know it doesn't feel like it for everyone back in school, or back in the office, but it is a fact that summer doesn't officially end until September 22. With that spirit in [...] Related posts:Indie Rock Summer Mix IV: Cymbals Eat Guitars, Times New Viking, Sonic Youth, Fruit Bats and More Favorite Indie and Alternative Songs of 2009, Vol. IV: Superchunk, Sonic Youth, Deleted Scenes, Julie Peel, Peter Doherty, St. Vincent and More Summer [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Video , Exclusive During the opening few shots of Keane 's new 'Clear Skies' video, it looks almost as if the Britpop band is on one of those soundstages that were popular sets for so-called "live performance" videos from the 1980s, complete with a backdrop featuring the band's logo on it. But then the camera cuts to a crowd shot and it becomes clear that the true backdrop for this video is a certain tree [...]

Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin have teamed up to create a wonderful new side-project, Mt Desolation. They formed the idea in Dublin last year, and since then, the project has grown and grown. I got the chance to talk to Tim Rice-Oxley about the band's inspiration, working with such a diverse crowd of musicians, and their upcoming live tour and album

We mentioned a bit ago how Villa had remixed that band Keane and how luckily there was a dub so you didn't have to hear the babyman thing who sings for Keane scrawking so much. That dub has now been made available as a free download!! Happy days! Download - Keane - Clear Skies (Villa Dub) [ M ] ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Preview - I think this less Keane, more Villa formula is [...]

The Belgian sky has a hard time deciding whether summer should officially be over or if it can go on for at least the rest of the summer holidays, but judging from this remix the clear skies will stay here for quite a bit longer. Before you start shrieking: "No way! It's Keane! I'm not listening to this", I'll tell you: It's Villa. And it's a dub as well, for that matter. Did you say you wanted .wav? Well, here you go. Keane - Clear Skies (Villa Dub) (ALT) [...]

Summer in the Villa. Can't get better than this. Bring on the weekend... Keane: 'Clear Skies' [Villa Dub] [ here ]
Keane's Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin, who serves as Keane's touring bassist, joined forces over a few pints at a Dublin pub last year with the goal of creating an album of "alt-country" music -- a collaboration that, after a few fits and re-starts, has resulted in Mt. Desolation and a self-titled debut album due stateside October 19 via Interscope. Trading songs back and forth, broadening their initial stylistic boundaries to include a variety of acoustic styles, Rice-Oxley and Quin have followed somewhat in the steps of Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody and his Tired Pony side project in [...]

"We're moving right up to the front. I don't care what anyone says. I love Tom and I want to be right under him when he is singing." There was absolute certainty in her voice. As the aforementioned Tom has written and sung, "I've never seen such clear skies...I've never seen such high hopes." I was less certain. Shoving your way to the front of the pit always has its drawbacks. But we did it. And we got to stand right underneath Tom Chaplin and Keane as they performed last night in front of [...]

The weather gods have looked upon us and have taken mercy. I looked at the upcoming forecast and this weekend is suppose to be in the 802s and slight chance of showers. Nobody likes to wander around in the sweltering heat, especially when you're half in the bag or extremely elevated. But the meteorologists here in town are 50/50 on everything. So we shall see. The two-day festival kicks off this Saturday and it promises to have a lil' somethin' for everybody. Enjoy this Mile High Music Festival Mixtape to get you in the mood for the [...]

T he unpredictable musical taste of Argentines continues to not cease to amaze me. I still jump for joy every time the DJ plays "Connection" by Elastica or "If We Ever Meet Again" by Timbaland featuring Katy Perry at Saturday night's Ambar La Fox party. I have regular flashbacks of hearing Keane's "The Lovers Are Losing" a couple of years ago while strolling down the aisles of the supermercado across the street from my apartment. And recently, the words "Toni Braxton" have creeped into at least two casual conversations with Buenos Aires porteños . So [...]

Dan Mangan has kind of come out of nowhere to be in the running for the Polaris Prize this year and has some major league buzz starting to build around his quirky, folky and solid songwriting. His album Nice, Nice, Very Nice (pictured above) comes out today on BSS label Arts & Crafts and I imagine you will probably be hearing a lot more of it in short time. To get your feet wet on this guy's material, be sure to check out his Robots vs. Indie Queens EP [...]

There's so many so called 'super groups' around these days. So much so we're going to have to start dividing said super groups into yet further labels themselves, ala, super and, erm, not so super, super group. Are you still with me? Anyway. We have Josh Homme's Them Crooked Vultures, Jack White's Dead Weather, Thom Yorke's Atoms for Peace. Oh, and er…Keane's Mt. Desolation … Hey, hey, where are you going? Don't run away just yet! I know Keane don't exactly have the coolest reputation in rock and roll, but one shouldn't judge [...]
