A Document Film of Keiji Haino
Okay, I don't get this. Usually I'm all for a Keiji Haino noisefest, but I really don't understand his cover of See That My Grave Is Kept Clean At All . I know, music isn't supposed to be understood, it's supposed to be listened to. What I don't understand is how this is the same piece of music at all. Haino recorded two versions of the song, one acoustic and one electric, and neither of them bear the slightest resemblance to the original. Here's his acoustic take, which sounds for all the world like [...]

haino's guitar really is an erotic marvel... Filed under: music stuff , video Tagged: fushitsusha , keiji haino , music , music video , noise , 不失者

In the run up to this show, someone told me that Keiji Haino once insisted upon playing so loud that the sound engineer at the gig quit in disgust. Someone else told me that, despite the volume he plays at, he thinks earplugs should be banned at his shows (Oto, having somewhat more sense, dispensed them for free). What is the purpose of this merciless pursuit of maximum volume all? And why does the audience willingly submit to it? Despite the forewarnings, I parted with my cash for the first of two sold out nights of a mini-residency which were [...]

Ballard’s High rise. Volgens het programmaboek is High rise “the unnerving tale of life in a modern tower [...]

Ian suggested I rank the "top ten Japanese albums" for my next installment of the Friday Top Ten franchise. That's right, it's a franchise now. As far as I know you don't have to do more than two or three of something in order to make it a franchise. They call the Twilight movies a franchise and there are only three of them. I've written nearly 200 top ten lists, I'd say that's a god damned franchise, wouldn't you? Anyway, I thought that Ian had a good idea, but there are so many different kinds of Japanese music, [...]
An experimental music summit recorded live in Japan last year. Japan - Asia - Music - Arts - Expatriate Life

PART ONE PART FOUR Pat Metheny Zero Tolerance for Silence Geffen : 1994 PM, electric guitars. "The most radical recording of this decade. A new milestone in electric guitar. A challenge to the challengers." - Thurston Moore, Sonic Youth The curious case of Pat Metheny, noise artist. Yeah, you read that right. Although best known for his glass-smooth popular jazz fusion with the Pat Metheny Group, he has [...]

They're named after a track on a Guru Guru album. You're going to love them. Also, they have have released albums on aRCHIVE, Last Visible Dog, Beta-lactam Ring, and Important Records, and recently released a collaborative album with Bardo Pond, fittingly titled "LSD Pond". LSD March was formed in 1996 by Shinsuke Michishita, Makoto Inoue and Kohei Michishita. They were mostly a live band, and performed mostly in Western Japan. Before the release of their first album, Kohei left the band, and some guy named Bill joined the group. The first proper LSD March album was released in [...]
