Number 9, number 9, number 9... It´s Wild Weekend time again. Musical revolution. As an alternative to all them discjockey types polluting the airwaves out there, we´ve got the iPod on shuffle. Once more it spins an eclectic six pack of tunes for the music-hungry masses, so tune in. This just might be on your wavelength. Have been playing a lot of Kristofferson lately. So it´s only fitting that the ghost in the machine picked one of his classic songs to start off this edition. To Beat The Devil [...]

Decided to tackle an odd little curio today, a New Order reggae track. Much like Depeche Mode, acts that New Order have actually chose to cover are both infrequent and obscure. Here is their version of dub pioneer and part time dentist Keith Hudson 's Turn The Heater On that they recorded for John Peel way back in '82. While they keep the reggae/dub feel more or less intact, just adding a bit more of a steppers kick to it, lyrically and vocally this could easily pass for [...]
Good times tonight watching KT play softball and then eating at Canter's for the first time (not including matzoh ball soup take-out). It was good! That's about all I have to say about today. Part of it was good. I haven't posted one of these in a while, so here are the best Google search results of the day which have directed Internet users to Swan Fungus during the last hour: 10. Sinbad re-married his ex-wife 09. Reasons to go for it and date 08. Coolness burger king sex 07. I realize what is my [...]

Dread at the controls taking over... High time to dub it to the top here a bit. One of my fave musical genres, dub basically means stripped-down, instrumental versions of regular reggae songs. Featuring heavy, heavy bass, snippets of vocals, and tons of added sound effects. From echo, tape delay and reverb to animal sounds, ringing telephones, crying babies, gunfire and blaring sirens... Everything goes really, just as long as it pleases Jah. The legendary Osbourne Ruddock alias King Tubby remains the undisputed master of dub, but other producers such as Lee [...]
Sorry I forgot to post this on Sunday! RULES for uninitiated noobs : With roughly 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. This week includes a couple live cuts (Will Oldham, Yndi Halda), and a bunch of randomly selected tunes. The final track was recorded by [...]

Winter´s coming... and me no like. After more than five months of sunshine, wearing shorts and flipflops at all times, it´s kinda hard to adjust. Today was the first day I had to put on my trusted leather jacket, while inside the heater had to be turned on again. Last Saturday, it proved still possible to enjoy lunch outside, in shirtsleeves while sporting sunglasses, but now the weather has definitely turned. Living in a mediterranean climate, it would be hard to maintain that it´s colder than a witch´s tit, or even a well digger´s ass out there, but it sure [...]
My Troubled Mind —released digitally and on happily hostile 10" vinyl, as perfectly fits the world's only Dorothy Ashby fan with a SHUT UP STUPID BITCH! t-shirt—is nominally an instrumental beat record. But play it at Dub Club, at Mas Exitos, at Echo Curio or at Manimal Fest and it will fit like it was especially commissioned. In seven songs and snippets, he dissolves and resolves together again dub and psych and hip-hop and rock and kraut and electronics and if not now he'll certainly soon grab Pete Drake and his talking guitar and claw off a little piece of [...]

Why is there no information about such a talented dude...stupid internets. Even with Keith Hudson and Tappa Zukie behind the boards, Militant Barry hasn't gotten too much respect over time. Just another reason why the public can't be trusted as arbiters of good taste. BLOGLOAD : Militant Style
There's no reason for this other than the fact that it's impossible to feel shitty while listening to any of this. What's that you say? You need an entire album of these dubbed out riddums....done. And again, thanks to... [More after the jump...]
