Kelley McRae is a singer/songwriter who draws heavily from the same school of sound as Regina Spektor. She is from Mississippi and technically calls Brooklyn home these days although you're more likely to find her on the road in her VW van touring from town-to-town in support of her musical exploits – specifically her most recent album Highrises In Brooklyn . The album was more or less self-released and you grab it in exchange for an email address from her website. Her music sets the scene perfectly for any New York coffee shop or for a fireplace in [...]

Kelley McRae is one of those singer/songwriters that writes music for everyone. The music is a mix of folk and pop resulting in mature lyrics that dance slowly around mind sticking melodies. Her title track off the album, "Highrises in Brooklyn" has been stuck in my head for weeks and now I will pass it off to you (song below). With all these indie bands buzzing up and disappearing at alarming rates, it's nice to see a mellow musician who will always be present due to her undeniable talent. McRae is one of those artists that [...]

"Highrises In Brooklyn" is a nice coffeehouse lounger that will surely please those disappointed with Regina Spektor's latest album- or at least fill the gap until her next. Up-and-comer Kelley McRae is one of those likable, smart pop-folksters who is easy on the ears and makes for a very pleasant listen. She played at Barnes and Noble the other night in New York City, and I can't think of a more perfect environment for her kind of music. Sit back, relax, and let McRae's calm voice and soothing melodies chill you out. And if "Highrises In Brooklyn" isn't [...]
I'm a bit anxious today ; I'm eagerly awaiting for Kelley McRae new album to be released. 19th of August was the deadline. Yes, I know it was today. I've connected the amazon.com album page early this morning - a page i've been visited at least a thousand times these last days expecting any publishing errors allowing me to buy the precious digits... And, at about 7.30, the buy option finally displayed ! Hip Hip Hurray ! Youpi Ya Youpi Ya Yeye !!!! - it's a translated version of my current 'I've got it' hymn ! [...]

Highrises In Brooklyn , the new album from Brooklyn's neighborhood belle, Kelley McRae , drops August 19th. Resonating with the twang of Brandi Carlisle and the sweet spirituality of Mindy Smith, McRae does a pretty good job of standing on her own two feet thanks to her honest lyrics, believable voice, and touch of classical composition. She tours her songs of burden, homesickness, birds and Johnny Cash, through our area this summer. 7/26: The Wonderland Ballroom, Washington, DC 7/27: House Concert ( check website , Baltimore, MD 7/30: Circle of Hope, Philadelphia, PA 8/23: Jammin Java, Vienna, [...]
This will be part of a short-post series, as most of my days have been filled with family, business, and wild life ! So I would like to beg my pardon to the artists for not taking time to probe my mind and writing longer posts. Be sure that I 've taken time in months of listening ( with heart and soul) before suggesting any of the following artists and i'm quite sure most of you will be touched by those talented songwriters. So the first of this series is the unqualified Kelley McRae ! First ; [...]

Kelley Mcrae is up today for a number of reasons. First off I requested the cd, second she's playing the MMS this weekend and thirdly I love her. Well maybe not yet but let me listen to her new cd, Never Be ( Sonablast Records ) a couple more times and see her live this weekend and it could be fait a compli. Kelley has a sound like that of Patsy Cline which of course means a bit like KD Lang. She has a truly huge and [...]
