A tweet from Q Tip to Kendrick Lamar suggests the artists have recorded a track together. Q Tip asks Lamar in the tweet if he "can let this record we did go?" because "people need to hear it." @ kendricklamar can I let this record we did go my brotha? People need to hear it — QTip (@QtipTheAbstract) May 20, 2013 Q Tip from Queens, New York has been working in Hip Hop for nearly 25 years and is currently working [...]

A founding member of the hiphop/ jazz group A Tribe Called Quest, Q- Tip's musical career has expanded for well over 25 years. Even though reunions of the legendary hiphop group rarely occur, the hiphop aficionado has been keeping busy through collaborations with Mac Miller, Busta Rhymes, Roc Maciano, and more. According to Twitter, it seems that we may have to add another artist to his list of gold- fledged collaborations. Yesterday Q- Tip tweeted to the good kid m.A.A.d city rapper Kendrick Lamar: @ [...]
The Hangout organizers presumably intend the word "Hangout" to be read with leisurely fellowship in mind, and certainly that matches the vibe here in Gulf Shores. But one passable alternate reading is "hang out" as in "Letting it all hang out," as in my bare gut protruding across my belt line, as in eating something called the Damn It To Hell Sandwich that will undoubtedly contribute to that gut's expansion, as in then dipping my legs into a swimming pool while sipping beer and watching live music. As in wringing the most possible sensory pleasure from 10-12 hours at the [...]

Photography by Nate Cover It's not even contestable: 2012 belonged to Mr. Kendrick Lamar . Between topping many year-end lists with good kid, m.A.A.d. city and playing almost every coming summer festival imaginable, it's almost impossible not to have the young rapper on your radar. Hip-hop shows are tough, as it takes a lot for one to really stand out. I can honestly say that while having seen many hip-hop shows in my day, I can sadly count the number of great performances on one hand (with three of [...]

Sun; pouring rain; more sun; more pouring rain - the Sweetlife Festival definitely had its share of weird early summer weather. But none of that detracted from the experience that was had listening to the bands playing there last Saturday. If anything, the pouring rain added to the religious experience - especially during Phoenix's set. One after another, amazing artists played at main stage, ensuring that no one would give up their seats along the pavilion - that is, until it started pouring. Though I have never previously listened to [...]
Aside from finally getting over the hype, embracing Kendrick Lamar and smashing Swimming Pools (Drank) , the track I've been listening to the most this week is (James) Holden's wibbly and choatic bumper Renata. There's been a lot of love for the Daphni remix (one of Dan Snaith's nom de guerres - his most well-known is Caribou) but I'd stick with the fantastic original.
It’s Friday, which means we're preparing for the inaugural Flavorwire staff trivia contest (really), and also that we are, as ever, rounding up the best songs we’ve heard this week. This week we adored new tracks from Liars, Julianna Barwick, and Scott & Charlene's Wedding, marveled at the fact that Giorgio Moroder is soundtracking a Google Chrome racing game, enjoyed atmospheric goodness from oOoOO and When Saints Go Machine, got all morose with another new track from The National, and plenty more. All this goodness is streaming now, and it all awaits you after the jump. [...]

Talib Kweli's Prisoner of Conscious is a play on both his own reputation as a socially conscious rapper and on the term "prisoner of conscience" created by Peter Buchanan in his 1961 London Observer article "The Forgotten Prisoners." That article became a rallying cry of sorts for organizations committed to eliminating imprisonment based on race, religion, or political views. Kweli is well known for his politics, having been a vocal contributor to the Occupy Wall Street movement, while keeping his Twitter followers abreast of his latest social [...]

In the world of music, it seems like we have been playing " Where's Dre?" since his last solo album titled 2001 back in 1999, ... Read the full article at http://www.prefixmag.com/news/ dr-dre-back-in-studio-with-ken drick-lamar-and-emin/73723/
There were many strong music videos this week, and a couple that I loved, from actual adults. But no grown-up is going to beat a charged-up mob of Minneapolis children rapping about bikes and school uniforms. I'm sorry. It's just not ever going to happen. Our picks for the week are below. Casi en simultáneo, el joven rapero de Compton estrenó videoclip y grabó una canción con Solange Knowles , hermana de Beyoncé . Juntos, dieron forma a Looks Good with Trouble , que ya podés escuchar a continuación. Esta canción estaba incluida en el último EP de la cantante, titulado True , que contenía un verso a cargo de Lamar. Por otra parte, Solange anunció la creación de su propio sello discográfico, Saint Records, a través de la compañía internacional Sony. [...]

Have you ever been to Alabama? I didn't exactly stick around to get an intimate understanding of the atmosphere, but the 48 hours that I spent there in 2005, stranded outside of Alabama with a broken-down shortbus and 5 cranky band dudes didn't exactly make me want to revisit any time soon. But then those wily Southerners went and decided to throw an incredible festival in Gulf Shores -right on the damn beach (look at that freaking picture from last year^^)- with headliners like Stevie Wonder and Kings of freakin' Leon. It's safe to say [...]
Newly signed to her own Saint Records, Solange gives us a treat in a collab with it-man Kendrick Lamar on a re-working of “Looks Good With Trouble” from last year’s Truth EP. The soulful, bedroom-approved cut has an eerie overlay that is especially noticeable once the Compton rapper starts up. Frequent collaborator Dev Hynes is once again masterfully behind the boards. Now, I don't know where you'll be reading this from, but here in LA it is way too goddamn hot. I can only handle so much sunny time vibe, and I often find my mind drifting to thoughts of luxury ski resorts and days filled not with sweat and high AC prices but with snow angels, sore legs from a day on the mountain, and cocoa by the fire. Ah, how I miss winter. Unfortunately for me and all my lethargic LA brethren, the heat is on and won't slow 'till September. To help us through it, [...]
Honestly, I told my friend earlier in the week that I plan to move somewhere in the UK, solely for all the good music that will be surrounding me. Karma Kid lets loose a free download of his Kendrick Lamar edit for ' Swimming Pools '. The single was a huge club hit for Kendrick, but Karma Kid gives the entire song under a deep, down-tempo'd garage makeover. The finished product is a groovy tune that encapsulates all of the energy of the original while still crossing into other genres, production wise. Pick up [...]
