David Bowie and France, that's a long and strange story – his 1977 album Low was recorded at the legendary Château d'Herouville where he refused to sleep in the master bedroom since he thought it was haunted by the ghosts of former residents Chopin and George Sand; producer Tony Visconti took the chambre des fântomes instead. Seven years earlier, Bowie already had recorded an English language version of Jacques Brel's Amsterdam , and for his Gallic version of Heroes see also Guuz's post below. The sailors of Amsterdam have a slight return in Life on Mars, which Hitler-obsessed [...]

This is a shaky shaky song and the message is cute. No wonder it's the next single off Keren Ann's haunting 101 .

During her too-short visit to Los Angeles, globetrotting songstress Keren Ann played a guitar shop, a house party ... and the 1,200-capacity theater at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on the campus of Cal State Los Angeles. ||| Photos by Chris Molina After her set Saturday night, it's hard to imagine either of those cozy shows could possibly match the warmth and intimacy the 37-year-old singer/guitarist/composer brought to the Luckman. Performing largely acoustic at the front of a bare-bones three-piece, Keren Ann charmed [...]
One of the best games is re-listening to artists you completely forgot about because you liked one single and then they didn't release anything else for four years or something. I give you Keren Ann Zeidel, who perferms simply as Keren Ann: Franco-Israeli singer-songwriter of sultry pop bent. Her "Lay Your Head Down" was a [Read Full Post...]

There's a lot of great shows coming this Luckman Fine Arts Complex this year and we have a great one coming this weekend! Keren Ann returns to Los Angeles in support of her newest release, 101, with a live date...
Singer-songwriter-composer Keren Ann is something of a quiet riot. The 37-year-old globetrotter, born in Israel to Russian and Dutch parents and reared in the Netherlands and Paris, sings in hushed tones, amid lush orchestration, about frequently stark (if not dark) themes, her keen melodic sense often exuding the innocence of a French chanson. American audiences starting falling for her when Capitol released her first English-language album "Not Going Anywhere" in 2003, and she's done little to disappoint since, her songs ending up in TV and film and her many other projects including a collaboration with the Icelandic Symphonic [...]

If you can't remember where you know her name from, Keren Ann is the international singer-songwriter who performed with Questlove at PIFA's Philly-Paris Lockdown a couple of months ago. From the venue : "We here at Johnny Brenda's HQ appreciate fans like you who discover and support great, emerging artists like Keren Ann and Chris Garneau. For some reason, a lot of folks in Philly haven't caught on to these artists the way that you have. We'd like you to come out with your friends to this show so that you can [...]
