Lasse Marhaug's Picadisk label seems to be on a mission to release great box sets which showcase the work of some of the leading proponents of noise. Not content with devoting 4 discs to Government Alpha, 10 to Incapacitants and 4 to Lasse Marhaug himself, they have now issued this ESSENTIAL 5 disc set which [...]

Kevin Drumm - Light's Out (Spraying Weeds / Hypnogogic Jerk / Needleprick / Idle Worship) ...by the end of "Idle Worship" you'll have fallen out of your chair convulsing on the ground in a pool of your own vomit. Full review on diskant .

Kevin Drumm Sheer Hellish Miasma (Editions Mego, 2002) Miasma is Greek for pollution (according to what I could find on Wikipedia) and the title, Sheer Hellish Miasma , is pretty much a full description of what Kevin Drumm has created here. Four lengthy meditations (five on the reissue) on electronic noise as a cleansing agent. I really don't know how to approach this album in English. It's just that good I guess. -Thistle
And so Imperial Distortion continues on to the Imperial Horizon: this new release by Kevin Drumm feels less liek a standalone work and more like an absolutely necessary coda to last year's scarred beauty of a double album. His black metal and evil noise roots seem ever more distant as he heads further out [...]

so as i lurch from one depressing personal tragedy to another i figured i need something ugly and harsh to soundtrack these rather grim days. and i figured what better fella to get involved in this than kevin drumm. the man who spawned, vomited, shat out, sheer hellish miasma . which at times provided the most gutjuddering ferocious noisemongerry (see the inferno for details) i've heard in long while. like burzum being fed legs first into an industrial shredder, recorded onto damaged tape and played down a long distance phone line on loudspeaker through amps [...]
My review of Kevin Drumm's Imperial Distortion from last year has somehow become the most read review on this site since its inception. If I knew that was going to happen, I might have done a better job of it. Left out all that nonsense about Indiana Jones, for a start. Where [...]
With each passing year, we find ourselves closer to the future. In fact we are so close that I can smell it (like chip shop vinegar, in case you are wondering). Before we get there, I feel strangely compelled to make lists, to document just what it was that made 2008 so uniquely rich with [...]
Sheer Hellish Miasma. The title of Kevin Drumm's 2002 release on the Mego label said it all. A gold-embossed Pandora's box, the opening of which resulted in assault by the blisteringly evil noise; it is the kind of thing for which Indiana Jones would have to hack his way past an army of [...]

Dutch label and distributor Staalplaat has store in Berlin (Torstr. 68), visiting it was on my 'to do' list for my (too) short trip to this city. I think I could easily spend there 200 euro or more. Ghedalia Tazartes 4cd box, Faust dvd and so on. Finally I decided to buy five cds. Split by two trios: Rawlings/Stelzer/Talbot and Grivas/Zioutos/Malevitsis was released as limited cdr by Absurd (greek one not brazilian). Third track from first trio where Vic Rawlings played cello and circuit-bent electronics, Howard Stelzer tapes and Jason Talbot turntable. Rawlings / [...]

* The second release of Musica Excentrica is an 80-minutes deep journey into the drony/micro sound of Philip Samartzis, also Mego / Erstwhile experimental guitar player/noise maker Kevin Drumm has a song on a 3 piece EP on Excentrica 03 . * Thanks to The Rambler we are now informed about the Steve Reich exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art . Recently called "America's greatest living composer" by The Village Voice , you can download 13 of his well-known minimalist pieces performed by different ensembles, also [...]
