Crap! In reading what other people had to say about Kevin Hearn & Thin Buckle's newest release, I discovered that I am one of the few people to really not like it. And actually, that's a bit of a lie – it's not that I don't like it, it's more that, to me anyway, it was just, well, meh. It's not bad but I just kept feeling that there should be something more. And I can't even say just what that "more" should be. The songs are well-written and produced – something which should be [...]
I've finally slashed my email inbox to 200 emails. I've literally been sitting here for a good portion of today, just getting through the emails. Sadly I've had nothing else to do today. I think this is one of the strongest portions of the "music from the inbox" series. Every one of these songs is pretty strong! Anyway, click the song, digg it, visit them on myspace to find out more! Kevin Hearn sure lucked out with guest guitar playing courtesy of Lou Reed on the track "Coma." Noisy guitar reverberates alongside unquestionably poppy, weightless vocal harmonies, "Coma" is off Kevin Hearn & Thin Buckle's "Havana Winter." The album is out now in the US via Hearn's own label Celery Music.
Vandaveer will release a new album, Divide & Conquer, on August 25 th . If you aren't familiar with this band, their music is the the work of Kentuckian Mark Charles Heidinger and features a lo- fi , blues new folk tinge that weaves tales of love and despair. It's very well done and well worth a listen. The band will also tour in support of the new album. Turpentine Vanaveer : Website [...]

I'm sure everyone has had the miserable experience of getting a song stuck in their head. It happens to me all the time. This morning, however, I had the extra-special treat of having two songs stuck at the same time. I woke up and stumbled into the shower with a mashup of Eiffel 65's I'm Blue and Three Doors Down's Let Me Be Myself (damn you Geico) on repeat in my cranium. What a way to start Friday! Anyway, thanks to a listen of this week's mixtape, my horrible affliction has been cured. I hope it [...]

Kevin Hearn 's other band was known for writing pop hits that could be embraced by parents and kids, so it's interesting to hear that his new record - Havana Winter - is named after his daughter. As I get ready to welcome our first child into the world, the realization that the world is scary is overwhelming, especially when you start to wonder what state it will be in 50 years from now. With some support from the legendary Lou Reed , Hearn and his band spin a track challenging us [...]
Is there an odder match-up than a Barenaked Lady and the godfather of all things cool? Well that's what we've got on the track "Coma", from BNL Kevin Hearn's new album Havana Winter. On the track Hearn, backed by Thin Buckle, is joined by the living legend Lou Reed. You can download the track here:"Coma"- MP3The album is out now.Kevin Hearn plays the Dakota Tavern in Toronto tonight (July 30th)

Havana Winter By Kevin Hearn Kevin Hearn, taking a break from his day job with Barenaked Ladies , has returned with his band Thin Buckle and a fifth solo album, "Havana Winter." First off, it is a beautiful album. Opener "Coma" is a good representation of what the songs are about: the writing is excellent, the instrumentation enticing, the lyrics a bit simplistic, the overall mood optimistic in its own reality. Oh, and Lou Reed on guitar. Hearn is an adventuresome composer, utilizing a [...]

Patio weather is here and you know what that means. Gridlock up to cottage country. Kevin Hearn and the Thin Buckle pay a little tribute to the popular cottage town, Huntsville, CA in the form of song. It's a little country, a little summer and a little slide whistle, just like the place it's named after. View Larger Map Kevin Hearn and the Thin Buckle (mp3) (buy)
Critically acclaimed Canadian keyboardist and songwriter Kevin Hearn and his band Thin Buckle are set to release 'Havana Winter' (Celery Music July 28), the fifth album and follow-up to their moody masterpiece 'The Miracle Mile.' Perhaps best known as a skilled multi-instrumentalist in multi-platinum international pop group Barenaked Ladies, Hearn has long pursued a solo [...]

You could say The Duke is a closet Barenaked Ladies fan. Their kids album is quite nice, if you are a hipster parent. Kevin Hearn is the Ladies' keyboardist. (He was also the man to push the Ladies to make said kids' album.) Kev's got a new album out – Havana Winter – that is short on time but long on a good time. Uptempo and fun, Havana Winter is chalk full of special guests: Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson add their two cents, not to mention vocalist Mary Margaret O'Hara and jazz [...]

Long time member of Barenaked Ladies , Kevin Hearn , is prepping a new solo record with his band Thin Buckle and first single from the album has just been made available. The single is called "Huntsville.ca" and will appear on upcoming album Havana Winter out July 28th. It's a pretty catchy little diddy. Download: Kevin Hearn - Huntsville.ca [MP3]
