A serious session of seven degrees of separation courtesy of MySpace led me to the music of Boa Constrictor . The band is huge by indie pop standards with a total of 6 members. As a result their sound is fuller than most and besides the regular indie pop comparisons I could make (REM, any New Zealand band from the 80's, or even the Cranberries) they've got a bit of a Beach Boys vibe. They've got a split CD-R out now on Cloudberry here . Just Too Soon [...]
My Laundry Life , the one-man-indie-pop-band project from German André Daners , has already released a split-single (with Kevin McGrother ) on the wonderful Cloudberry Records back in January this year, and now he announced his debut album for a March release. You shouldn't miss this talented young man if you're into sweet jangle-pop (or into sweet pop at all); the album will be released on Vollwert Records , and below is the opening song as a taster. Bring on summer!!! [...]

This is a first. This is the the first song to appear on Swedesplease by someone with no known association to Sweden. I've written about a lot of indie pop over the years here and just thought that if anyone was actually reading this blog on a consistent basis and liking said Swedish indie pop then they'd probably like to hear this as well. The minute I heard the title of Kevin McGrother's the new record and saw that Kevin was an indie popster I was intrigued. Living In An Enid Blyton World sounds [...]

The minute I heard the title of the new record and saw that Kevin McGrother was an unrepentant indie popster I was intrigued. Living In An Enid Blyton World sounds like the best of British indie pop from the 80's. Think Max Eider, The Housemartins, Jazz Butcher, Blue Aeroplanes, etc. "Summer Starts on Sunday" has all the elements of a perfect indie pop song. It's got slightly melancholy sound that is a perfect match for Kevin's laconic vocals. The indie pop themes of simple love conquering all, the beauty of nature and the [...]
