Regardless of how or at what time of life they have experienced the band, rock listeners consistently recognize My Bloody Valentine as a sonic outlier. If there's one person, other than Kevin Shields, whose name might be synonymous with shoegaze, it is Scott Cortez.  He's been creating ambient and textural guitar music since the 80s with tons of bands that include Astrobrite and Lovesliescrushing.  On this latest Lovesliescrushing release, the duo, comprised of Scott Cortez and Melissa Arpin-Duimstra, explore warm ambient guitar drone with far-off vocals soaked in reverb.  It is from their upcoming release,  Ghost Colored Halo out on May 21.

  There have been rumors circulating for weeks now on Primal Scream's Facebook and Twitter accounts concerning a possible new album, and it looks like those rumors have finally been confirmed.   More Light , the band's tenth studio album, is set to be released on May 6th via the Primal Scream's own First International label. Primal Scream's tenth album More Light is out this spring, and today we get a listen to an edit of its first single "20133 (the album version is nine minutes long). The track's arty video features some unsettling slow motion shots of threaded moths, rope bondage, and a woman convulsing on an operating table. The Dave Holmes-produced song's a bit brighter than that imagery would suggest, though, with a prominent sax part and Kevin Shields' dreamy guitar work. Take a look/listen below. Read More...

Primal Scream will return in May with More Light , the band's tenth studio album, and first since 20082s Beautiful Future . As previously reported , the album finds bassist Debbie Googe filling in for Gary ‘Mani’ Mountfield, who is currently touring with The Stone Roses. The moment that  mbv , the long-awaited return of My Bloody Valentine hit the Internet, the band's website, appropriately enough, crashed. It was the last in a long line of false starts and promises from Kevin Shields and the band since the release of their previous record, Loveless , all the way back in 1991. Strangely enough, the website's meltdown made the entire scenario feel like something out of the nineties, when music lovers would wait outside brick buildings [...]

Prior to my first listen of m b v , I spoke to a few friends who had seemed underwhelmed at best. It's no  Loveless , they'd said. Though to compare m b v to Loveless is to miss the point, for a worst-case scenario would have been to wait 22 years for an album that sounded like a band trying to sound like My Bloody Valentine .
