In case you haven't been paying attention myself and Jim 'Ayetunes' are taking our first tentative steps into gig promotion. On Friday the 30th of April we have a belter of an line up which includes 2 of my tips for big things this year, Mitchell Museum and Campfires in Winter , with my favourite live act of 2009, Kid Canaveral headlining the evening. Kid Canaveral - Good Morning In case you are new to any of these bands [...]

We have a clear few days to get some work done this week, before the weekend's flurry of giggery. There are some devious Austrians sneaking about Scotland this week, partly having a holiday, and partly shooting sessions for They Shoot Music. Apart from Mrs. Toad and I recording our annual anti-Valentine's day festival of hate, we will record a podcast with them while they're here, and then leave them to go off and do some stuff with Jesus H. Foxx, Meursault, Withered Hand, a trip up to Fife to see the Fence Records chaps, and then some time in Glasgow [...]

[Welcome back to the first Sunday Supplement of 2010, with Euan from the Steinberg Principle , amongst other things, returning to his regular slot. Next week will see the return of Campfires and Battlefields] Trampoline this month is going all pop on your asses. The shimmering guitar sounds will be out in full force. Matthew [the Astronaut, not the Toad] has organised this month's show, so I will use his very words to describe what's happening. Why write something myself when somebody [...]
From day one of The Pop Cop , this blog has directed readers to the MySpace page of any artist we've written about. The social networking site's instant ability to let fans hear streamed songs packaged in a consistent, practical set-up made it a much more reliable alternative to linking to a band's custom-made website. Recently, however, it has been pretty hard to resist the urge to hunt down the people who run MySpace and give them a right good kick to the crotch. They seem hellbent on making the experience increasingly annoying for everyone. Musicians are [...]

From thier upcoming debut album (Spring 2010) Scottish band, Kid Canaveral, releases new video and free single "Good Morning" this week. Looking forward to getting our hands on the LP when it drops. Kid Canaveral - Good Morning myspace

And Another Thing!! (Live at Cabaret Voltaire, Edinburgh) Kid Canaveral - FREE DOWNLOAD | MySpace Music Videos

It's freezing outside and (just slightly) covered in snow (about half an inch) so naturally the entire nation has ceased to function. Erm, okay, it really isn't that cold and the snow really isn't that big a deal in all honesty but of course given the worst weather conditions we usually have to deal with are constant and life-sapping drizzle it seems that it's all come as a bit of a shock to the nation as a whole. We live in a city by the sea of course, which means that we never get the sunshine which is [...]
I know I said there would be no more Friday Freebies this year, well to get round this I have gone with Festive Freebies as to be honest there are far too many cracking tracks out there that I had to share them. Kid Canaveral Having stalked the Canaverals for over a year now, it would be fair to say that I am just ever so slightly excited about their forthcoming album. After listening to their new song 'Good Morning', which they are giving away as a wee taster of what's to come, I [...]

For a wee country, Scotland punches way above its weight in many areas, but one which is rarely acknowledged is its standing as a fertile breeding ground for music blogging. These shores can boast at least 10 established blogs, each offering a diverse, distinctive take on the best (and worst) of Scottish songmaking. From a personal point of view, what continues to make this community so inspiring are the enterprising ways in which many of The Pop Cop's counterparts are expanding their reach and taking what [...]

First up, if you fancy a night on the tiles this Friday (the 27th), then why not head along to Pin Up Nights 6th Birthday Party at The Flying Duck. Where you can catch The Dirty Cuts , We're Only Afraid Of NYC , Mitchell Museum (really liking these guys) and Always, Me, Me, Me . With the added bonus of a special birthday edition fanzine and badge for the first 100 to arrive, plus a birthday party wouldn't be the same without cake (and er free toast?!). For further details [...]

Certain bands make very difficult things look very easy. One of the hardest and most elusive things in music is on the face of it pretty straighforward: write memorable tunes. It seems simple enough, but I've lost count of the number of faceless, unremarkable indie bands I've heard in the last few years who all make broadly the right sound for my ears, but whose music leaves my head almost as fast as it enters. Kid Canaveral, on the other hand, are the opposite. They write music in a general style which I am not usually all that [...]

Ah yes, so it is the first in our series of 62-word reviews, where I attempt to review whatever you feel like sending us in 62 words or less. This means if something is really bad I can just say 'It's shit' and get away with it. Oh, and before you ask, the reason I chose 62 is that it rhymes with 'review'. Also, Peenko chose the name ('Help Ma Boab...') and I have no choice but to go with it. And away we go... Dave Hughes - Sinners and Saints album A slow [...]

This week's job is the finishing of the Honeytrap Toad Session, preparing the second Toad House Gig for Friday - brilliant brilliant brilliant! - sort of getting ready for the Toad Autumn Party at the Bowery on the 10th (Pineapple Chunky madness, woo!) and getting the Meursault singles pressed and the artwork sorted. If I am dead by the weekend, do not be surprised. Fortunately, the start of the week is relatively light on gigs. Lightish anyway. Tonight is free, so I should get a chunk done then. I just fear the traditional upload hell which tends to [...]

Round these parts (i.e. me) there is a lot of love for Kid Canaveral, whether it's pop-tastic tunes, or the fact the Davie their singer put up with me rambling pure pish at him at last years Malcolm Middleton Christmas party I'm not sure. I guess a bit of both. Anyway, I digress, fucking love them no matter what my reasoning may well be, for me 'Smash Hits' is one of the best songs I've come across this year ( go on treat yourself ), so having stalked David for several months now I managed to persuade him and the [...]

I don't want anyone to think that the upcoming series will feature only those singles from years ago recorded by bands that have long passsed into posterity. If it's good enough, it will find a way in here.... Kid Canaveral formed in the golfing mecca of St Andrews in 2004, and like many other bands began to get noticed through live gigs and the recording and releasing of self-financed singles in small quantities to a loyal fanbase. It was only after graduating in 2005 and 2006 that [...]

This week I am piling on the music snobbery. Oh, okay, I'm not really - if anything I'm undermining it with some truly guilty pleasures. There's not much modern fluffy pop music which I happen to enjoy despite my snobbery because... well, because I just don't think there's anything I can think of which fits that bill at the moment. I know nostalgic guilty pleasures and truly embracing low-brow music purely for the enjoyment of it aren't quite the same thing but I think I've budged about as far as I am going to go on this one. [...]
