Words: Saam Das Back in 2008, I wrote about a new solo artist called Dan Black , and his incredible track 'HYPNTZ'. A few months later, he appeared in the BBC Sound Of 2009 longlist. The reaction to his debut album of the same year, 'UN' , was somewhat mixed but he's bounced back since - collaborating with Kaskade , Kid Cudi , and now Kelis . Listen to 'Hearts', featuring Kelis , below. [...]

This week on Twitter, reactions to Daft Punk, Kanye West, jokes, opinions, and a snapchat of Taco from Odd Future taking a poop. Just another week in the life of 140 characters or less. Here is the week on Twitter:
Being the 10th anniversary of the widely recognized Rock The Bells Music Festival, we had an idea that organizers would go big to mark the [...]
This year's Rock The Bells music festival marks its 10th anniversary with a jam-packed lineup, including "virtual performances" by two deceased artists, Ol' Dirty Bastard from the Wu Tang Clan and Eazy-E, who will be performing with the ongoing reunion of Bone Thugs N Harmony. The MC Supernatural actually freestyled the all-star line-up earlier this evening. In full, here's what the lineup looks like: Big K.R.I.T., Black Hippy (Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Schoolboy Q), Bodega Bamz Bone Thugs N Harmony, Brother Ali, Chase and Status, Common, Curren$y, Danny Brown, Dilated Peoples, Dizzy Wright, Dom Kennedy, E-40 and Too Short, [...]

It's not a coincidence that Chance the Rapper 's second mix tape, Acid Rap , starts with a song called "Good Ass Job." Chicago's hottest new rapper, born Chancellor Bennett, is a calculating presence, and a reference to the aborted title for what would become Kanye West ' s opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy serves as a sort of mission statement: Chance never really knew a hip-hop world without Yeezy, and so his music inhabits his hometown's most famous [...]

"No, John, how do you REALLY feel about this album?" G.O.O.D. Music/Universal Republic, 2013 0.7 / 10 Dear Kid Cudi, I hate your album. With that one sentence, I’m sure you’ve already rationalized...

Weed, whiskey, pills, shrinks, out-of-control shopping and some wall punching. Does any of this sound like your life? Do you ever feel as if the life you are living is just a dream? Does your life ever feel like a movie? The places you go, the things you do, the people you meet, the scenarios you find yourself in? No one is saying that this dream isn't a nightmare, or that the movie can't be a horror film. We have variety for that very purpose, so that very few of our stories will ever be the same. [...]
On Christmas day for potheads around the world, April 20th, the BOAC team was destined to get out of town for a weekend filled with [...]

Given Kid Cudi’s erratic cult of personality, it’d be easy to dismiss the grandiose promises for his completely self-produced album, Indicud . At times, this knee-jerk reaction seems unwarranted; there are some great moments in the album, daring and exciting sounds playing off one another in a way that only a mind like Kid Cudi can inspire. And then there are the face-palming tracks, heavy enough to dilute a project that otherwise could have been very, very good. One of the album's best moments comes within the first three songs. After a [...]

You can't ask Kid Cudi to be any more than who he is - a proud stoner, actor, and, most notably, an electronica-addicted rapper and producer. That kind of integrity within may be good for him on a personal level, but when it comes to music, he doesn't seem to have risen to the occasion. On his latest record, Indicud, he has moments of genius that recall his earlier work, but he never fully commits, or grows beyond the Kid Cudi [...]

In his new album, Indicud, Kid Cudi is still the lonely stoner - only more intrepid now than ever. 7510_03_just_what_i_am_feat_ki ng_chip.mp3 [...]

Kid Cudi is one of rap's most enigmatic characters. After making it big off a fantastic mixtape , and a strong debut album , Cudi released the strange followup Man on the Moon II, which featured dark, space-y tracks and nihilistic tones. After that he made a strange, and not very good, garage rock side project WZRD. But finally, the kid named Cudi has returned to rap - mostly. While his new album Indicud is not his strongest effort, it is a worthy addition to the Cudi discography. [...]

Every week we will be featuring The Sweet Five! What's The Sweet Five you may ask? Well I'll drop you five sweet songs that you should listen to once a week, that will help you get over your mid-week slump and set sail towards the ever-nearing weekend! Ready? Okay! Kid Cudi - Unfuckwittable Cudi is back, as of last week, with the release of his new 18-track album Indicud. This song stood out hugely to me. This track screams vintage Cudi, just the [...]

The final first-week numbers for Kid Cudi's supremely disappointing new album, Indicud , are in and it's looking pretty good for the Cleveland native. Despite leaks and weak reviews, the record still shipped 136,000 units and almost sold enough to top the Billboard. That spot went to Fall Out Boy and, um, LOL. But I digress. For those wondering, Cudi's previous albums, the two Man On The Moon projects, sold 104,000 and 169,000 copies in their first weeks. As for his WZRD album, it moved 66,000 units at the jump. [ via ]

So I've been rather busy and haven't been posting as consistently as I would've liked, henceforth this little recap post. I'm not gonna go into detail on all the songs featured; everything is just a collection of my pick's from the past week or so. Most notable are: 1) Lana 's "Young and Beautiful" off the upcoming Great Gatsby soundtrack 2) New Empire of the Sun !!! 3) Disclosure 's latest featuring Eliza Doolittle 4) "24k" feat. A$AP Rocky which samples one of [...]
Kid Cudi earlier this month announced he'd made the seemingly odd decision to leave G.O.O.D. Music , after Kanye West had taken the Cleveland MC under his wing for a few years and helped cultivate his career. The natural assumption was that there was some sort of rift between the two passionate, stubborn creatives. But Cudders just wanted to forge his own path, and start his own label (Wicked Awesome) , so there was no beef and the split was amicable. In fact, it went over so well that Kanye still wants Cudi to come [...]
By now, I know Kid Cudi , and our relationship's almost like a rebellious child and a disconcerted parent. When he debuted in 2009 with The Man on the Moon: The End of Day , I was disappointed that it didn't live up to his 20082s A Kid Named Cudi . By the time Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager landed in 2010, I found hope by realizing he'd never be that man on the mixtape. Now, with his third solo album, Indicud , my [...]
Big artists make big albums with big expectations. The hype surrounding last week's release of Kid Cudi 's Indicud was virtually insurmountable. Watch our review below to find out if we thought the album lived up to the hype or failed to impress. Related: Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience [IRL Review]
Last week, we amused ourselves with a thought experiment that was doing the rounds on Tumblr — marking 4/11 by picking out the best songs in our iTunes library that were precisely four minutes and 11 seconds long. It turned out that there were heaps, and the idea got us thinking: when better to do something similar than 4/20? So we thought we'd limit ourselves to making our annual stoner mixtape for today out of songs that are precisely four minutes and 20 seconds long. (Disclaimer: these songs are all 4:20 on our iTunes [...]
