If you're in Sydney then no doubt you'll know Purple Sneakers. I think next time I'm up there I'm gonna get to one of their nights. My cousin says it's pretty rad, so should probably give it a shot. But, as I read the promo email properly, I see that they're planning on doing some [...]

A little while back, our pal Georgia at Microphone Memory Emotion asked me how we find the "crazy stuff" we post about on Rose Quartz. I guess it'd be tough blogging from Brooklyn, where everyone's no more than 30 seconds away from tweeting about the next massive thing, but here in Sydney it's a lot easier to find and post about a heap of cool shit that isn't already saturating the Hype Machine (totally selfish, I know!). Anyway, here are my top ten albums by Australian bands this year. Shout outs go to Love of Diagrams, Brain Children, [...]

With their self titled album released in March, Kid Sam have steadily gained more attention with every move, securing support and airplay from Triple J's Zan Rowe, and currently touring the country with Sydney troubadour Jack Ladder. Drawing from influences as seemingly obvious as Radiohead and Pivot, Kid Sam have ventured on to create a unique aesthetic that lands somewhere between minimal folk and post rock, while never straying too far from the pop sensibilities that [...]
Kid Sam – We're Mostly Made Of Water There are things you don't expect, like a middle-aged woman from Scotland singing I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables convincingly, or two cousins from Melbourne on a label no one's ever heard of releasing a folk rock record which is basically perfect in every way as their debut. First albums are meant to be full of ideas and rough as guts, but this is fucking smooth as, too: immaculate production and orchestration with sounds that take you by surprise. There's walls of sound and [...]
