Kid Smpl 's Skylight project dropped back in 2012, but today we are being treated with its accompanying remix album. Enlisting a number of producer colleagues, Kid Smpl's vision is transformed by equally as progressive beatsmiths. Included on the list of producers are Dream Koala, devonwho and Jerome LOL, who all do a fine job of making these originals their own. When we receive a remix of a song that we don't initially recognize, our first move is generally to pull up the original for compare and contrast purposes. This is a fruitful process that shine light on the remixers creative process and often introduces us to new artists. Unfortunately, this was not the case when we visited with Laura Welsh and her unravelling talent. Laura Welsh has quite a voice. Soulful, engrossing and perfect for pop, her single 'Unravel' has been given the Kid Smpl treatment with this latest remix. Not unlike the immaculate tones of Jessie Ware, Laura's desperate vocals caress the ears with a smooth influence before Kid Smpl gets his ever-atmospheric hands on it. Playing around with pitch, Kid Smpl manages to give 'Unravel' a whole new meaning; making Laura's lyrics even more heart-breaking. Pro-longed synths and a deep-bass undercurrent is an unmistakable Kid Smpl touch and one that works supremely well here.

It might actually be more fitting than any genre label because there is something about his music that just sounds better when the sun is down. His latest remix of How To Dress Well's " & It Was U " strips down all the bounce of the original to an unrecognizable echoing beauty.
