Mid-tempo indie coasting of the Boxer Rebellion and M83 jamming Joy Division flavour, takes over in this snippet from the autumn released debut album, 'Stuck In The Ocean'. Forlorn life-laboured lyrics are ground out by singer Elliot Williams. A rising guitar churn, gives a bit of urgency to 'Kids', with soulful backing adding some vibrancy. It is well-crafted, but a little too laboured, yet does enough to promise a potentially epic and painstaking debut full-length is on the cards, adding to that inevitable morose autumn feeling.

The gang is getting even cuddlier! Coming this holiday season, Brobee, Foofa, Muno, Plex, and Toodee will all be available for the first time as Ty Beanie Babies! Stay tuned for more info on availability as the holiday season approaches.

This first official single by Manchester four-piece Airship managed to catch me pleasantly off-guard. Judging by the fast-paced drums that kick things off, I was fully expecting some kind of dreary pop-punk drivel, but the band deftly subverts that expectation, delivering a song much more in keeping with the washed-out, stoned-off-your-nut-on-the-Pyr amid-Stage vibe of early Verve, albeit rather more propulsive and less messianic. The drums are meaty, the guitars distorted and so drenched in reverb that they become an immense wall of sound, and the urgent, heartfelt vocal is very effective and... Read more..

It's going to be a double birthday whammie this Saturday night: a fellow waver gets one year wiser but more importantly a very special Melbourne club-night, " The House deFrost ", turns three! Mr. Frost's THDF is the one constant place in Melbourne where you would be greeted with the purest disco in a warm and inviting setting, with a great sound system and setup (featuring a Bozak, etc.). Neat stuff, right? So Mr. Frost, keep going strong! But yes, there is a huge jamboree to celebrate this Saturday night at The Toff in Town [...]

Children's book writer, artist and super hero fan, Ralph Cosentino (Batman: The Story of the Dark Knight) and Superman: The Man of Steel) has completed the trinity with his new children's book Wonder Woman: The Story of The Amazon Princess ($16.99), published by Viking Children's Books. This illustrated storybook tells of Wonder Woman's origin. With her unbreakable silver bracelets and golden Lasso of Truth, she fights her enemies, teaches peace and respect, and shows the world how to live in harmony with nature. Told in simple and engaging prose and [...]
After a couple months of teasing us with clips, screen-tests and storyboards, legendary video interlopers Megaforce have finished their video treatment for our next single, The Greeks. Filmed in a sleepy French suburb in god-knows-where, and starring a group of the coolest kids in the cul-de-sac, The Greeks' video reflects the song - it's about [...]

To paraphrase DJ Lance Rock , "It's Time To Dance! Again!" That's right folks, much to the delight of toddlers and indie rock fans everywhere, an all new (?) Yo Gabba Gabba Live show will be making it's way across the USA and Toronto starting this fall. (Though producer Michael Cohl said as much in a Billboard interview a few months ago, it's still nice to see the official confirmation.) The venues are scaled back a little this time, (The Beacon instead of RCMH), but it's probably all for the better, since they probably [...]

Tweet I love Airships. The way they float effortlessly across the sky like a Frank Gehry balloon puppet and all the time carrying the potential to explode and eviscerate everyone inside. Stunning. My infatuation is probably partly due to my upbringing in Bedford. Anyone who has lived in or close to Bedford knows that the biggest things around are the two massive airship hangers where they made airships to bomb the Germans in WW1. The hangers were also home to the set of Batman Begins [...]

When music gets sent over to me it can often take a few listens to establish how I feel about a particular song, so it is refreshing (and a tad less time consuming) when I hear something with an instant appeal - as is the case with Airship 's first proper single Kids . It's engaging right from the upbeat, bordering on frantic, beginning and from there, it just gets better and better. It also has the kind of nostalgic lyrics that tend to give songs an epic feel, reminiscing, as it does, about lost dreams & friendships [...]

It's a strange experience going to a Cold War Kids concert. Maybe it's because, like me, so many of their fans have been following them since they started, desperately hoping to emulate that first experience of them. They clearly aren't going to be to everyone's taste; theirs is a discordant, aggressive, angst-ridden sound, but to some of us it's still beautiful, honest and clear. Their first album was ball-grabbing, it prompted immediate reaction. I've not met anyone who sits on the fence over Cold War Kids. I first saw them after the release of their debut album in 2006 in a [...]

My eyes have been opened... or severely scarred. I can't decide. Some may call me a late bloomer, and I won't fight it... but I just saw Pink Floyd's 1982 feature film, The Wall, for the first time last night. For all the die hard fans, and the kids who have...
