I've been listening to this track on repeat for a little while now, but maybe you havent't. Kidda - Under The Sun Kidda - Under The Sun (Herve Remix)
Hailing from Brighton, Kidda slides into that narrow slice of genre that i'm a sucka for, namely happy-summery-for-some-reason- always-coming-out-of-the-uk-va guely-jackson-five-ish jams. (Sonny Jim's Can't Stop Movin is another example.) Under the Sun, a simple catchy loop stewing in a fresh Northern Soul marinate, heads up his new album, "Going Up". Kidda appears to be lining up the tour dates around Europe for the latter half of 2008. Check him out for a change of pace, and/or hit em up on myspace to listen to some more samplers, including a remix Hervé [...]

Kidda's 'Going Up' Skint records has got to the most visionary group of music producers on the planet. Hitting the mark again they release Kidda 's new full length 'Going Up'.. The original 'Under The Sun' has been in the new Bacardi mojito adverts and seeings how they he this tasty remix by Herve-things are looking up for the Brighton musicmaker. from Properly Chilled >>>Kidda, whose real-world alter-ego is Ste McGregor, is known for producing top-shelf hip-hop-funk described as "slick soul breaks, hip [...]

A quick post is needed for my old fave Herve. Hes continuing to churn out wobbly beasts, and his trademark style still hits the spot. I wonder ..... how long it will be until i get bored of him? Well i hope its a good year or two before that happens. Anyways.. Herve AKA Joshua Harvey is known by a multitude of aliases: Action man, herve, the count of monte crystal etc etcbut this doesnt detract his tradmark wobbly, bassy club tracks. Favoured by the likes of Switch / Erol and Annie Macs radio shows hes already [...]

There are a number of artists who are worth keeping your eye on this year; among them are the likes of Jak-Z, Andy George, Trevor Loveys & Pirate Soundsystem. And Detboi is another of such promising pioneers, who first poked his head round the corner with his grinding, innovative take on Uffie. A week ago Detboi kindly emailed me a large array of his recent backcatalog. And, most excitingly, a sneak preview of his upcoming collaboration with Foamo, an EP to be released on Herve's 'Cheap Thrills' Label. Foamo's fidgety basslines fused with Detboi's dancehall bounce? Tasty indeed: [...]

We are not messing around anymore. These songs are the pick of the bunch, the creme of de la creme, the cream of the crop; ie THE shit. I had a problem with last week's post, I couldn't tag all the artists/remixers etc as I had posted too many. Now I promised myself I wouldnt do it ever again, although I got going on this post and their was tooo many good songs that could not be left unposted. So here we have it, another gigantron post full of ear gold (with some artists left untagged, but hopefully you will [...]

When it comes to Hip-Hop I'm no expert. But I know what I like. I want upbeat tunes, a retro vibe, more than just a vocal hook to keep me interested and a bit of bounce. I like the electro-tinged beats of the Wiseguys, the jazzy and scratchy style of A Tribe Called Quest, the hip hop mash-ups of The Rub, the in-your-face politics of Public Enemy and the chipper old school sound of DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. I like it old school and I like it sunny. Kidda - AKA Ste McGregor - is [...]
Every Sunday Palms Out Sounds has their Remix Sunday, a collection of Baltimore, hip-hop and electro-ish remixes, most of which I think are submitted to them (they also have a few resident remixers, artists and DJs - Fagget Fairys, Chew Fu and AC Slater being examples). They can be hit and miss, and there's no way of knowing unless you download 'em all and start playing; they have about twenty tracks a week, available in a handy .zip file or downloadable individually. Some absolute gems have cropped up recently, which I've handily put up here for [...]
HOLY SHIT. Literally. The Pope's motorcade is huuuuge...they went past my building about an hour ago sounding their horns and doing their cross on the chest movements..I began rolling my eyes...but then.....out of the sunroof of the popemobile...out pops his holiness; sunnies on, hands in the air. I recieved this from his secretary Press release..APPARENTLY: "At 10:17am today, his holiness: Pope Benidict XVI heated up his Wi-Fi and began downloading songs from Music Blog Site 'Sex4Ears' and became overjoyed with happiness and began to crunk dat shit up all up in da hood" I was stoked [...]

New series here at CubikMusik again as we try and provide readers with some label profiles to compliment the sounds. We will only cover the labels we like. First off is Skint , home to many great artists such as Goose, Kidda and Fatboy Slim. Based n Brigthon, England and started by JC Reid and Tim Jeffery, Skint, along with Wall of Sound , were the leaders in the big beat sound that came about around the mid-90's. Since then the label has broadened it's horizons to include some great house [...]
