Deluka laces its electropop with growling guitars and shadowy synths, a cocktail that has turned the Birmingham four-piece (now based in Brooklyn) into the emerging band of choice for rockers who like to dance and dancers who like to rock. "OMFG", the latest single from their acclaimed debut full-length, You Are The Night , is an anxious, sweaty jam that will drag you to the dancefloor whether you like it or not. (It's also a "sucker punch to the face" , in the best sense). We're f'g stoked to premiere the new remix by New Zealand's [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Video , Exclusive , Q + A Gino DePinto, AOL New Zealanders Jordan Arts and Sam McCarthy make up the electro-pop duo known as the Kids of 88 , and these guys value heavy production above all. Sitting down with Spinner at this year's SXSW festival, the Kids talked of how they met, touring with the infamous Ke$ha and the everlasting nature of J. [...]
Art Vs Science and Kids of 88 showed how much they love San Francisco by performing sets filled with sweaty and flamboyant jams.

Checked out Kids of 88 tonight at The Satellite and my feelings are mixed. The beats were heavy and probably the best part of the set, creating a sick vibe their bio describes as "a cross between a late 80s police drama intro theme and a sophisticated super hussy." The electro melody coming from the laptop and keyboard were certainly danceable, if just a little too simplistic. The drum beats were redundant, but I guess that runs true in the electro/dance genre. The lyrics are sleazy, but in a sultry delectable way. My main gripe is with frontman Sam McCarthy. His [...]

They've been awarded the Philip Hall NME Radar Award and were one of the bands picked by the BBC as a Sound of 2011 , and we were lucky enough to get to speak to them on their whistle-stop visit to Ireland. The Clink talks music, philosophy and some nonsense with one of the bands of the moment, The Naked And Famous . [...]

"You've got pressure dripping off of your shoulders, let me be the one to relieve it" Oh snap, kids... we've got another one of those massively dividing bands on our hands here. Yes, Kids of 88 make the kind of music people either really, really love, or really, really hate - there's no middle ground to it whatsoever. The duo are of the same up and coming breed of indie New [...]

Very strong track from New Zealand's Kids of 88. Is it just me, or do the epic drum fills sound exactly like those from Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight"? Sugarpills (Sony New Zealand, August 2010)

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUBAs it was mentioned last time we heard from this band, Two Door Cinema Club has been finding us quite a bit and in no way is that a bad thing. "Undercover Martyn" is the name of the tune I am sharing with you today and it comes from their most recent album entitled Tourist History. The song was the third single to come from this album and I'm very surprised it took me until
This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before then it goes up on the site, but sometimes I get backlogged and can't get through writing [...]

Aww yeah! You thought the handclap was gone but we got it back in all it's gated reverb glory! Signed to Sony in 2009 and recently winning 2 awards at the 2010 New Zealand Music Awards for best New Video and New Single, Kids of 88 are really starting to make some waves in the sea of new music. The boys (Jordan Arts and Sam McCarthy) recently released their album Sugarpills in August which jumped straight in at #2 in the New Zealand Charts. Overall it's a strong album with lots a great [...]
