Don’t know when I’ll be back again… Kiki Pau: Pines Tell me what it is you like about music. Because I’m pretty sure Kiki Pau does it on this album. It takes this Finnish band four tracks to cover 45 minutes, each one more a rock-and-roll suite than a song, amassing styles, genres and varied instrumentation along the way. Moving, transcendent, unique, progressive and very, very good. Soundcloud : Kiki Pau – Pines Spotify : Kiki [...]

The second release from Brooklyn's newest and greatest label Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records is a beautiful sprawling modern masterpiece from Finnish psych band Kiki Pau . With four songs over 43 minutes, Pines is a departure from the type of music that Kiki Pau made on their first two albums. Says Kiki Pau's Henrik Domingo: "As for influences, lately its been about nuances and finding different ways of making sound, so we've listened to a lot of jazz, experimental, electronic, and 'ethnic' music etc. I've grown a bit [...]

I'll be playing tunes this Friday at Hawthorne Theatre with my good pal, DJ Bob Ham . It's always a fun time-I mean, it is Happy Hour on a Friday. I suppose the goal will be to get things warmed up/getting people hot and bothered for the Hot Water Music show later that evening. I think we can do it. But despite what the photo to the left implies, we won't be spinning records. Instead we will be gazing into the glow of our laptops, which will likely resemble two grown men playing Battleship. Less sexy than [...]

You know about my adoration for all things Finnish right? Well, Kiki Pau win right off the bat, but also because they're associated with both Dungen and Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records . If you've got five minutes, and I know that you do, you need to sit down, preferably somewhere quiet. There's multiple movements within this song, and there's no way you can really put some generic label upon the track-that's probably a good thing. I like the light-hearted vibe entering in around the 3 minute mark. [...]

Finnish psych-rock band Kiki Pau has some serious jamming chops. The band's new single, Astronauttija, breaks sonic boundaries over the course of eleven exploratory minutes. Astronauttija comes from the group's third album, Pines, which is available on vinyl starting today. This isn't casual listening, so grab your headphones and take a musical journey with the quartet...

Helsinki-based four-piece Kiki Pau began as a rather traditional guitar pop group in 2007 but changed their course radically right after the release of their second album. Giving up on the verse-chorus form and focusing on inner space/time-traveling were key elements that gave birth to Kiki Pau's new sound and third album, Pines . Heavy on extended guitar jams and effect-driven soundscapes, the album is made up of extended pieces that whisk the listener away on a lush, musical adventure. . Pines sits at the crossroads of classic jam-rock á [...]

Grinch, not because I am being deliberately all Scroogey and slagging off Christmas, just because I am somehow entirely failing to find any Christmas spirit at all. I like Christmas actually. Although, I suppose to be fair, like a lot of people I despise the hysteria of the presents and all that shit. Particularly the way the shops start punting it in late September, and the fucking adverts ladle on the emotional blackmail to imply that anything less than an entry-level mortgage spent on presents is some sort of horrendous slight on your loved ones. Fairly [...]

Kiki Pau is a four piece psych-rock outfit based out of Finland. Their past work has dabbled in the more abrasive side of psych-rock, but with the release of their new single “Tomte Mars,” it appears that they could be headed in a different and more mature direction. The inventive 8-minute trek works in hand-percussion and wind instruments to produce a psychedelic track that’s chill yet captivating. Music Player: [...]

What if? Hah! What ifs are good to play with. What if Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green and Pink Floyd founder Syd Barret would both have withdrawn together into some cabin in Finland? These guys - Kiki Pau - are currently in Länsi-Herttoniemi, and originate from Helsinki, Finland. Pyschedelic Rock that would have made a splash in the late 60s, but - fortunately - it stands its own ground in 2012 as well. If you're into psych and prog rock, give these guys a spin, they're worth it. Or in other words; set the controls for the [...]

Ruotsalainen psykedeliarock-yhtye Dungen saapuu Helsingin Tavastialle pe 26. marraskuuta. Yhtye nähdään kotimaisen Kiki Paun lämmittelemänä myös Tampereen (24.11.) ja Turun Klubeilla (25.11.). Dungenin matka maineeseen kuuluu viime vuosien ruotsalaisen popviennin yllättävimpiin menestystarinoihin. Vuonna 1999 perustettu yhtye on uransa alusta lähtien yhdistellyt soitossaan 60- ja 70-lukuvaikutteista progressiivista folkia ja indie-henkistä psykedeliarockia. Nokkamiehensä Gustav Ejstesin johtama kokoonpano nousi tunnettuuteen vuoden 2004 Ta Det Lugnt -albumilla. Syyskuussa julkaistava Dungenin kuudes studioalbumi Skit I Allt ilmestyy Yhdysvalloissa Mexican Summer -levymerkillä (mm. Real Estate, Best Coast) ja Euroopassa Subliminal Sounds -labelin kautta. Uutuuslevy on yhtyeen [...]

This isn't what I expect to sound a band from Finland to sound like. That said, I don't really know what I would expect Finnish music to sound like. Cats on Fire don't really fit the perception either, but at least they sound somewhat foreign in the vocals. This could be any band from the American mid-south. Well, not quite any band as most wouldn't end up sounding as good as this. This is good, rollicking rock 'n' roll. So good it even gets away with being four and a half minutes, which is usually about a minute and a [...]

Finnish band Kiki Pau return with 2nd album White Mountain . The follow up to the well received debut Let’s Rock displays an impressive and more guitar driven Kiki Pau channelling the spirit of Mr. Marc Bolan, T REX, Velvet Underground and slacker gods of the past such as Pavement and Guided By Voices. An "Old Song," has been floating around for a little bit now and it's a good stompy tune that's crossed the Atlantic now and is destined to sweep across the country on a ray [...]
