It's an exciting time to be alive and I'm not referring to the jetpacks, hovercrafts, teleporters and such. No, it's bacon. Canadian bacon. It's not really Canadian Canadian bacon (which is, actually, back bacon) but American Canadian bacon (which was invented by McDonald's). I brought up the subject once with a Canadian friend and he dropped his head, shaking it slowly back and forth. Like the stereotypical Canadian, this fellow was polite and generally good-natured. "That's not bacon," he sighed. I'd seldom seen him so peeved as [...]

I just learned something right here, right now...I mentioned Canadian rocker Kim Mitchell in my last post and somebody, anonymously, asked me to post the songs I made reference to. Never a problem as we aim to please at The Giant Panther, so I figured I better bone up on Kim before I speak out of turn. I did some checking and it turns out Kim Mitchell was the lead singer of a band called Max Webster. Why is this important? Well it's probably not to any of you, but for me Max Webster was the first band I ever [...]
Mr canadian bias homercat is at it again. Although this is the first time for this Canadian artist to make an appearance on Good Rockin' and way overdue. Kim Mitchell is a Canadian guitarist who was the lead singer and guitarist for the band Max Webster before going on to lead a solo career. In early 1985, the song "Go For Soda" from the Akimbo Alogo album became an international hit and remains his best known song outside of his native Canada. Rockland is the third solo album from Kim Mitchell. The album was released in 1989 [...]

Stephen Harper on the role of the opposition in a minority government . (via Paul Wells @ Macleans ) Oh, you see what he's doing there, he means a Conservative opposition. That's why what he said then doesn't line up with what he's doing now. Martha Wainwright: very good. Great voice, great energy, great band. Biggest surprise of the show: Opener Brian Borcherdt (whose myspace profile pic does him no favours--unless he wants to look like Jared Leto in a Star Wars fanfilm???), best known as one of [...]
It’s “Secret Shame Week" at All Time Champion and I’m going to get things started with a little bit of 80’s rock and roll. Okay, technically, the album from whence Kim Mitchell’s I Am A Wild Party comes was released in the 1990s, but I’d like to think of it as… just a little bit overdone… a bun that stayed in the oven too long, to the point that when it finally staggered out of its musical womb, it came out carrying a six-pack and a box of novelty condoms. That kinda wild party. [...]
