Singer-songwriters are, broadly, about as appetising as a small piece of excrement on a slice of burned toast. It's nice, then, when you come across someone who plays guitar, sings about boys and girls, and doesn't make you contemplate the comparative benefits of public self-immolation. Gorgeous Bully is from Plymouth, but his musical heritage is clearly anchored somewhere about 3,000 miles to the west. 'That Kind Of Girl' is a gloriously scuzzy piece of one-three-five simplicity that immediately brings to mind the Lemonheads - but with a tongue stuck even more [...]

The Modern Traditional - That Kind of Girl The Modern Traditional is an acoustic group based out of Calgary, Alberta. The band features Brett Roselle performing lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Ryan Ronksley on lead guitar and backing vocals, and Anthony Johnson on bass. Look out for their self-titled debut album this November. Bonus: Better That Way [...]

Different kind of girl - The Beat The (American) Beat. The (better [just]) Beat. Paul Collins' Beat. A simply perfect song. Wonderful construction, wonderful melody, wonderful tempo, wonderful feel, ok lyrics. One of the best songs from one of the best ever songwriters. The Nerves, the Breakaways, the Beat, and he still plays around! If ever the world was better for someone one day deciding to play guitar... And few have ever looked as good behind one.

our least fave GLEE he-actor the DARREN CRISS was so desp for she-love back in 2008 that he took to a dating show. would you touch it ?? wotyougot
Champagne Riot writes that the track Moonstruck has been added to the P3 playlist . And indeed it's true . In the same post they add that they ( like the rest of us ) have given up on Myspace ! Moonstruck Anyone heard of (or perhaps remember) Kind of girl ; a band I used to hype ? If you [...]
I miss the good ol' version of Myspace . I mean the really old version. Probably no one remembers it anymore, but back then you could download (and deeplink to) songs and the search function was really useful, having a number of parameters. Especially my hunt for " new indie bands from Denmark " was quite a success and helped me find several interesting bands (e.g. Kind of girl , Anamia and Northern Portrait just to mention a [...]

Danish pop trio Kind of Girl have finally released their debut album, Lonely in A Modern Way, so we can all run down to the nearest HMV and purchase a copy, elbowing others forcefully out of the way as we battle to the front of the queue. At least we might if the album was any good. It's not very often an album leaves me with almost nothing positive to say at all, but hey, it can happen, and happen it has with Lonely in a Modern Way. The best I can say for it is that at [...]
When I wrote about the release of the We Are Popular debut album by The Holiday Show , something was indeed missing, as I had no song to accompany my post. Now the band's label Slow Shark Records has mailed me the album opener Always Something Missing to share with anyone interested, thus helping to make my previous post complete. + Always Something Missing Blog favorites Kind of girl [...]

So here's what I've been listening to lately: Travis - Ode To J. Smith I really grew to like the latest outing from our favourite Scotsmen. The raw edge suits them well (again), and it was necessary. Another pop-album like The Invisible Band/Boy With No Name would have just been a bit bland, I think. So good to see the boys going back to their beginnings, but not forgetting how to write elegant and [...]

So it's Beerfestival time tonight, but I'm afraid I'm having second thoughts about that demo of the month concert . I have lots of stuff I need to take care of tomorrow, so little sleep and severe hangovers could create a nightmare scenario. I was happy and proud to see my name mentioned in the " thank you " credits on the Kind of girl album, though it probably means that I will now and forever be considered untrustworthy when I write something about this genuinely intelligent, friendly, innovative, talented and outstanding Danish [...]

Copenhagen's Kind of Girl specialise in bass heavy synth-pop doused in the sweet addictive vocal melodies of lead singer Sissel. 'Lonely in A Modern Way' marks the debut album from a band bursting with ideas on combining rock, electro and atmospheric elements to write addictive and inspiring pop songs. The album's opener "Slave To Your Charms" is a great introduction to just this. The initially sparse vocals glide over a backdrop of shockwave-bass lines and moody synthesizers before erupting into the chorus's stirring lament of love. "Equally Meet [...]
Are we in for a disappointment? I certainly hope not, but first single Love at Last Sight from the forthcoming moi Caprice album is, in all honesty, one of the band's weaker efforts. I love this band to death, but something's just not right here. Stream it via Soundvenue High 5 . It's exactly 910 days since the first time I featured Kind of girl and today the band's debut album Lonely in a modern way ( buy it [...]
As it was played on the radio this morning, I wanted to post the video for Zookeeper's Boy by Mew , but " embedding is disabled by request "! I'm tempted to post multiple question marks, because what exactly is the motivation behind this decision? I'm truly sorry that I wanted to promote one of your songs. Sorry, sorry, sorry and I promise that I'll never do it again! My big problem is that I absolutely adore Mew , so hopefully it's just some label jerk [...]

A random MySpace friend request and up popped this Danish band. I usually get Candy, 20, Alabahama, who "loves lollipops and fucking" or I get nosebleed techno geeks with a 'z' in their name. But this new-ish group, Kind of Girl, (new to the UK with their first release here this month) are a refreshing change. Hailing from Copenhagen, this five-piece have a lovely ear for melody and some gorgeous radio-friendly songs - some 198 stations worldwide to be precise, including, I see on their biog, a UK station called Radio Nowhere!! The [...]
Folk, indie rock, old school glam metal, euro rock, and sweet girly music... All under the cut! Bon Iver - Skinny Love This song resonnates a lot with me. I absolutely love the raw, honest, melodic, and harmonic wailing that's somewhat one of the trademarks of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. In a lot of folk music, drama is downplayed. Folk artists tend to wring your heart with music and lyrics rather than vocal stylings, but Bon Iver uses all the aforementioned. One of my friends in [...]
I'd really love to write a longer piece on this, but for now I'll leave you with this burning question (and please do feel free to add your answer, if you can enlighten me)...on the radio ( P3 ) this morning I once again heard Slave To Your Charms by Kind of girl as well as Told Her I'm From Compton by The Floor Is Made Of Lava . Why don't they ever inform the listeners that the songs are actually legally available as free [...]

A while ago, I've told you about a little project that I'm working on, and finally, it's ready to be released into the wild! Just a quick recap: In a music forum I frequently visit, I was asked to make a list of what I think are the best artists from Denmark. At first, I've just made the list, and then added links to the artists' websites and whenever possible, free MP3s. I was quite pleased with the result, and started thinking about taking it a bit further. I thought it would be nice for people outside [...]
