Steve Mason contains, in my opinion, one of the most interesting and best voices in modern music. It's so smooth and measured and never over-emotes, yet it's capable of containing a full spectrum of emotions, from frustration to bliss and sadness. Whether on his solo projects, as King Biscuit Time or Black Affair, or as lead singer to the popular indie-alternative The Beta Band, it's his immaculate vocals that thread all these projects together. And it's his voice, carrying a now weary and more mature weight, that radiates on Steve Mason's newest solo album, Boys Outside [...]

We caught up with Steve Mason following the release of his new album Boys Outside; to find out a little more about the man behind The Beta Band, King Biscuit Time and Black Affair. Hi Steve – thanks for chatting to us today. How are you? I'm fine thanks. Heroes never die, they just re-load. I remember a point with King Biscuit Time when it seemed you were ready to throw in the towel - but you returned with [...]

New music from Steve Mason Great news for Beta Band and King Biscuit Time fans - Steve Mason 's solo album Boys Outside can now be streamed in its entirety over at his website ( here ). The album was officially released in the UK last month, but the colonies will have to wait patiently until June 22 for physical copies. Luckily, Domino Records is offering the sales of digital copies today, though. Below are two tracks I've especially found enjoyable. The first song, "I Let Her [...]

Steve Mason you say? not so sure about him? lets do this. Steve Mason - The Letter Track 3 from the new album called Boys Outside which I bought today (as well as a wildly mispriced book/CD collection about The Band). The album is excellent, genuinely complex and utterly inaccessible for the first few spins, like drinking gin and champagne. The Letter has had the most plays for me today probably [...]

After the announcement that the former Beta Band frontman is playing Electric Picnic , it has been revealed that Steve Mason recently signed to an imprint of Domino Records called Double Six. The first single 'Lost & Found' is a Beta Band-esque number after his diversions into previous solo albums as King Biscuit Time and Black Affair and troubles in-between . An acoustic-based album Boys Outside produced by Richard X is out in the first week in May. Download 'All Come Down' at [...]

New Music from Steve Mason For fans of Beta Band , King Biscuit Time , or even the slight departure of Black Affair , the news that Steve Mason was making a new album brought nothing but joy and anticipation. It now appears that we now have a concrete date for all the waiting to end. Announced this week via Twitter , Mason has reportedly finished his newest LP entitled Boys Outside , which will be released under his own name [...]

Nick Noeding Jr. is busy. Besides his Shoegaze/Down-tempo/Acousmatic /Tape music solo work as Pollination , he is also currently involved in the following projects Day Of The Woman (w/ Yppah and Stenographer ), Collider (a Yppah collab), 10k Cities (a Zoomzip collab), and Slow (a Stenographer collab). And then there is also his wildlife analysis photography. Oh, and he also plays in Yppah's live band. So we were pretty excited to received a mixtape from Nick the [...]

![[news] King Biscuit Time Back In The Studio](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1888018_lg.jpg)
Finally some more KBT While this is an extremely late post (I'm not sure how this one slipped by me), it still is fantastic news. Posted back in January at Steve Mason's MySpace page , King Biscuit Time has entered the studio with a some "amazing songs." According to the post, Mason is working with producer Richard X in London and will hope to get a tour together after the record formulates. This is great news for those who had tickets to the Black Gold tour [...]
In music, even with the numerous genres, sub-genres and collaborations present, we journalists still come across those releases which do not seem to fit with any one category. Take, for example, St. Anger by Metallica, where it could be argued all day long that it was either alternative, garage rock, sludge rock or just plain sludge. (Maybe post-alt.-garage-sludge? Yes?) As it stands, things like this become a matter of perspective, and so after five days of haggling through the internet - no applause necessary - I bring you the gem by King Biscuit Time , appropriately titled, [...]

Well, not entirely. The former lead singer, Steve Mason has been working on his solo project called King Biscuit Time . He's also making some new tracks just as plain ol' Steve Mason . He had his hand at a tour with KBT in the past and it didn't work out, but now he's back for more. For fans of The Beta Band 's High Fidelity glory and mourners of their post- Radiohead tour break-up, you can reminisce all you want while jamming out to Steve's soothing new tunes. [...]
Ten Tracks offers great music at even greater price. Record labels these days are trying just about anything in order to stay afloat in the digitally pirated waters. The old ways are out (R.I.P. Tower Records), and some new ways have proven successful (ie Radiohead, NIN, etc.); however, it seems that having an established fan base and mainstream notoriety definitely allows for these aforementioned ventures the positive outcomes. What about the up-and-coming bands that no one has ever heard of? Where do [...]

Steve Mason announces new King Biscuit Material Posted in mid-September at King Biscuit Time's MySpace page , Steve Mason had this to say about a new KBT song: So, i will be releasing a new track, called " I LET HER IN " on a new label called TENTRACKS in October/November. TENTRACKS is a music subscription site run by the people who bring you the brilliant free music and arts paper, [ The Skinny ]. I think my track will be on the first batch of 10 tracks that [...]

ex-Beta Band trio, The Aliens, release sophomore effort Luna today
Steve Mason's journey as a musician has been fraught with ups and downs. He had success with both the Beta Band and King Biscuit Time , though neither was able to make a commercial impact outside of Britain. Nevertheless his music has garnered somewhat of a cult following here in the states. On his newest project, Mason has adopted the name Black Affair in an attempt to further diversify his musical offerings. As a disclaimer, fans of Mason's previous works will be utterly surprised at the direction [...]
As Colin so astutely observed, I did maintain what I hope was a dignified period of silence this past week. I feel however, that it is time to again post some tunes....When TVV got the mention a while back in 'The Guardian', it was summed up as:- "Wonderful early-80s Scottish indie 7-inchers vying for attention with healthy doses of classic Thin Lizzy." But I'm nothing if not perverse, so here's
