BADBADNOTGOOD , the group responsible for some of the best jazz covers of artists you wouldn't ever associate with jazz, are back with a nine minute rap cover assault, which sees them take on Madvillain ('Supervillian Theme'), MF DOOM ('Vomitspit') and King Geedorah 'Fazers'. They're definitely on the right end of the 'quirky cover' spectrum, with Richard Cheese being on the other end, but their work with Tyler The Creator (below) is much better than this.

In case you haven't been keeping a close eye on Bad Bad Not Good , here is another opportunity to check out what this maddening trio is up to. The jazz improv group has selectively covered the dopest hip hop artists from Tyler the Creator (whom they actually jammed with not too long ago ) to J. Dilla . Today they released a curated set of songs by DOOM , Madvillain , and King Geedorah . Click here to view the embedded [...]

It's been a slow Sunday on iLS, so here's a mellow track to relax and kick it. "KMD was a rap group from the early 90s. The members include: Zev Love X (a.k.a. MF DOOM, Viktor Vaughn & King Geedorah), Subroc (Zev Love X's deceased brother), and Onyx The Birthstone Kid." Thank you very much, Sach O's billing till Thursday. Alternately known for British rap icons (Roots Manuva, Wiley, Jammer) and extreme left-field US Hip-Hop (Majesticons, Anti-Pop Consortium, cLOUDDEAD), Ninja Tune offshoot Big Dada records rarely ever aims for the conventional Hip-Hop crowd. Even by the experimental standards of contemporaries Def Jux or Stones Throw, Big Dada releases often feel divorced from the trends and sensibilities of contemporary rap music with artists preferring to color outside the lines rather than compete with the Jay-Z, J-Zone or J-Live. Though beloved by the same beat heads [...]
Photo by someone who isn't me If it's December at You Ain't No Picasso, then it's time for Mixmas! Every year I like to turn YANP over to some of my favorite bands to showcase some of their favorite songs through a themed mix. They pick a theme, five songs that fit the theme and then [...]
I'm exhausted. It's been a long day and a long week, and I am looking forward to a good night of sleep tonight. This week should be a little more laid back than the previous one, and will provide me with opportunities to go out into the world and have some fun. I think. I don't really know. We'll see, I guess. The only thing I know for certain is that today is Sunday, which means I have to compile for you a new mix tape. It's Sunday Mix Tape time! RULES for uninitiated [...]
• In case you've ever wondered about the value of old NES Nintendo Games, or the people who pay for rare cartridges, here's a classic story of some nerd dropping $17,500 in the middle of a recession to own Nintendo World Championships Gold. Actually, it's not so much a "classic story" as it is a huge dweeb retelling the story about how he saw it on eBay and made an offer, then didn't get it, then got it, then almost got scammed, then finally got it. Coming soon to a theater near you. Starring the dude who had sex with [...]
New York-raised rapper DOOM – formerly MF Doom, also known at various times as Viktor Vaughn, Zev Love X, King Geedorah, Metal Fingers, and the Supervillain – is known mainly for being wilfully odd. He wears a metal mask on stage, parades an interest in comics and cartoons that borders on the obsessive, and recently responded to allegations he'd sent an impersonator to perform at several gigs by revealing that "Everything we do is villain style." Despite (or possibly because of) these efforts at obfuscation, the flexibly-monikered one has a dedicated following – primarily [...]

Much like Hoge's previous post , I'm feelin' summer creepin' up with this good weather, and that means the windows have to go down and the bass has to go up. At least for me. And for that, I figured King Geedorah could provide us exactly what we need. Something about MF Doom makes rap ok: Gettin' paid like a biker with the best crank, sprayed like a high ranked sniper in the West Bank. King Geedorah- Anti-Matter (ft. MF DOOM & Mr. Fantstik [...]

Back to the Jockey Slut Disco Pogo series. This one's number 9 from July 2003. Three whole years ago. On the front of the mag (as you can see â€" along with my Tube map jigsaw) were the Neptunes. Inside we were introduced to little-known producer Danger Mouse (then part of DM & Jemini), said hello to new NYC band !!!, saw Tiga's fists, and puzzled over trip-hop wierdo Tricky. Dangerdoom - The Mouse and The Mask is a collaboration between legendary rapper MF Doom and the elusive producer Danger Mouse which was released about four months ago. Somehow none of these songs ended up on my Best of 2005 list , which is unfortunate, because its a pretty amazing album. The album is littered with voices from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Space Ghost but the real draw here is the pairing of Doom and Dangermouse. MF Doom's raps are as bizarre as they are [...]
