Over the past couple weeks I have been having a craving for some good pyschedlic rock, and not the kind with lofty choir-like vocals, birds chirping, and songs about peace, love and becoming one with nature, more the kind with a lot of layers, preferrably with an edge and some good screeching guitar playing. Then on the other hand, I have been checking out some ambient artists that I haven't gotten into before. Both are a little of the old mixed with a little of the new. Some are more psychedelic or ambient than others, but they fit well into [...]

"Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds allegedly got himself into another altercation last night (September 18), this time with garage guru Arish "King" Khan . According to multiple sources, including a report by Chad Radford for Creative Loafing Atlanta 's Crib Notes blog, Hinds punched Khan in the face, sending him to the hospital, after an appearance in Atlanta at the Highland Inn Lounge's weekly Kirkwood Ballers Club open mic. According to Klein, the trio (plus drummer Jessica Juggz) played a few songs, including a [...]

Pitchfork TV posts the exclusive Bradford Cox behind the scenes look at this year's Pitchfork music festival -- for those without the means to make it to said festival (cough Stark), Cox does well to transport viewers back in time, and back stage. Enjoy Pitchfork TV's whimsical camera work as they pan the chests of HEALTH band members revealing their homemade T-shirts. Also take note of the multitude of hoarse voices surrounding the Khan camp, tour manager Kristen Klein included. I recently read that Fleet Foxes plans to adopt the new Khan-established moniker of the "Fleet Somethings..." You're better than [...]

Deerhunter, King Khan, and the Black Lips on the Video Music Awards? You have to admit, whatever they'd bring to the ceremony would be a hell of a lot more cutting edge than any pseudo-sexy dance routine dreamed up by the Pussycat Dolls. [ MTV Newsroom / Pic via duluoz cats ]

by kevin diamond If you enjoy loud, unapologetic rock and roll; the kind that acknowledges it's own ridiculousness, and celebrates accordingly; If you like your front men half-naked, smearing banana on their face and chest, and throwing it at the crowd like a monkey throws his shit; if you like guitarists who spit loogies straight up into the air, only to catch it in their own mouth; if you like throwing toilet paper, pelting bands with water bottles, tearing pillows apart and letting the feathers float in the wind, ridding the perfect [...]
The Supreme Being of King Khan and The Shrines is quite the bold album title, especially for a band on their first US release. As with all things Khan, there's exaggeration, cheekiness, and a little bit of the truth in that title. Still, if your only exposure to King Khan is through his recorded material, you may doubt the genius of an Indian man channeling James Brown with his big, funky band. It certainly didn't click initially with me. Then, it happened. I saw the live spectacle with singing and dancing, people gettin' [...]

The best-run music festival in America is a yearly congregation of college radio nerds, fashion victims, art students, burnouts, baristas, and meatheads in Chicago's Union Park.

The 2008 Pitchfork Music Festival was a lot of work, a lot of fun, a lot of rad bands (including, but definitely not limited to Dinosaur, Jr , Extra Golden , Mission of Burma , Times New Viking , No Age , Spiritualized , Jay Reatard , King Khan and the Shrines , and Boris ) and a lot of work. Each night after the festival closed, I biked back to the hotel with my laptop on my back, rested for a few minutes, then went over notes and photos [...]
Download: Atlas Sound - "Another Bedroom" Download: Jay Reatard - "Always Wanting More" (via Spinner ) Download: King Khan - "Welfare Bread" One of the most inexplicable, unusual, and totally fucking awesome bits of indie-rock history occurred at the closing of the Pitchfork Music Festival 2008, right after headliner Spoon began their set of blue-eyed indie-soul at the Aluminium, one of two main platforms, stage at 9:00. Cut Copy, the second-to-last band of the festival, were set to take the Balance [...]

King Khan is a showman whose stage act would be unrivaled on most days. Today, he happened to be up against Tim Harrington on Les Savy Fav . Remember that story about the church, and god, and the devil's music? Well, by mid-afternoon, the B stage was running half an hour late and that meant the two premier frontmen of Pitchfork 2008 were up against one another. On one stage you had a man who is the Indian James Brown and Elvis rolled into one larger than life persona, King Khan, the leader of [...]
