After two singles on Hyperdub, and a release on Soul Jazz, King Midas Sound's 'Waiting For You' is the debut album from Roger Robinson and Kevin Martin's new group. In previous collaborations, Roger performed as a highly respected poet, but when he opened his mouth to sing in a fragile falsetto, everything changed and King Midas Sound was born. The signature intensity of their previous solo projects remains, but the mood and feeling is radically different. As opposed to Roger's spoken word pronouncements and The Bug's fierce battleground dancehall, King Midas Sound is more like an opiated aftermath. [...]

Warp aren't a bad little label are they? Their twentieth anniversary celebrations have been in full swing for a while now with a multitude of events and releases. The chosen and recreated sets are particularly good value, head on over to Bleep and avail yourself. From the chosen by the fans set here is Plaid . Plaid- Eyen (Download) I wonder what type of stuff Hyperdub will be releasing in fifteen years time? They've just clocked up their 5th anniversary and to [...]
The Hyperdub label, home to many great artists in the dubstep scene, is releasing a compilation to celebrate it's fifth year. It's entitled 5: 5 Years of Hyperdub and is out Oct. 19 in the UK and the following day in the States. It should be a good addition to your music collection whether you're a newcomer to the genre or a long time dubstepper: disc one consists of brand new songs (including a new Burial one!) and disc two the "old" favorites. CD1: 01 King Midas Sound: "Meltdown" 02 Kode9 [...]

First thing's first - we really need to get it off our chests - Dabrye's version of 'One Ting' is not only for our money the best thing he's ever done (by some distance), it's also one of the most beautifully addictive, surprising things we've heard this year and another towering achievement from the impeccable Hyperdub imprint - you just need it in your life!!!! Ok, now that weve got that out the way, back to the beginning. South London dub warrior Kevin Martin returns for his second outing on Hyperdub alongside Roger Robinson, reunited after their dope collab on [...]

[ Hyperdub ] ( buy vinyl ) ( buy mp3s ) Truly deserving of the tag future dub, the music created by Kevin Martin of The Bug and vocalist Roger Robinson sits somewhere to the left of dubstep entirely, occupying a cavernous chamber of otherworldly bass and washed out soul stylings. With only two original tracks to their discography, it may seem a tad early in their history to be releasing an EP of versions, though I suspect any new King Midas Sound material will be welcomed by fans ahead of [...]

- Roots Manuva interviewed in Dub Echoes (2007) Bruno Natal's documentary covers dub's rise in popularity Europe and fall in Jamaica, as well as the importance of reduction as an aesthetic (and the influence that had on just about all electronic music), and has nice interviews with congo natty, kode9, bunny lee, kruder (minus dorfmeister) and so on and on. so here's some european bits. basque dub foundation - ministerio del dub iration [...]
Like other Five Star Monday's there's no theme to today's post apart from the fact that they're all five star songs on my Itunes. The Congos' invincible Congoman, a classic in roots reggae, Ary Barroso's everlasting samba classic Bahia covered by the Argentinian pianist and composer Lalo Schifrin , Dabrye's remix to King Midas Sound , How Many Miles to Korea a freejazz piece from the new album of Austrian HDV Trio and Working Nights ; a lovely nudisco piece from UK's Trus'me . The Congos - Congoman [...]
Apologies for the lateness in this here podcast. We've spilled over into December but that's OK as I'm about to kick the Irish end of year albums and songs poll off this week so the next podcast will be chosen by you. For now though, we have a selection of more leftfield than usual stuff taking in " Malian-tinged sunniness, the electro muddiness of Telepathe, the gloomy ambience of King Midas Sound (The Bug's new project)and uplifting yet slightly creepy Simian Mobile Disco remix of Deerhunter's 'Octet' ". Aoife Mc who presents is available for bar mitzvahs [...]

King Midas Sound - One Ting (Dabrye Remix) ___ the image: tony stamolis

A track on the new Hyperdub release by King Midas Sound (Kevin Martin and Roger Robinson) has got me all a flutter for its use of some inspired sampling of Techno legend Derrick May . The Dabrye remix of 'One Ting' utilises a lo-slung Hip Hop break and a hushed spoken word style vocal about love and heartache. It is the soaring pitch-bending strings that is May's hallmark sound however that elevates this track to the stratosphere. Would it have the same impact without them? I doubt it. King Midas Sound [...]
