Nearly three years and 90 Kickstarter backers later, King of Prussia finally makes their sophomore return in Transmissions from the Grand Stand. Beginning in 2009 in South Carolina, the recording process came to span five countries with 16 differing musicians before lead singer Brad Hanick rejoined his core group of six bandmates to place the finishing touches in a Chicago church. Inspired by this transatlantic affair, Transmissions from the Grand Stand takes routine indie pop and entwines intricate details about growing up, falling in and out of love, and keeping connected despite distance. With the group's [...]
Transmissions is an easy, pleasing album on the ears, and despite losing its footing here and there, the three years or so of effort on whipping this material into shape comes off in spades. King of Prussia took a rather circuitous route to recording and releasing their full-length sophomore album, Transmissions from the Grand Strand. Originally based in Athens, Georgia - home to the likes of R.E.M. and the Olivia Tremor Control, among others - the band was basically the brainchild of Brandon Hanick and Trey McManus, the latter of whom has seemingly since left the group. (The [...]

King of Prussia’s gone through some changes between its first album and Transmissions from the Grand Strand : Moving from South Carolina to Chicago, Illinois, enduring personnel shifts, and accommodating the transition from a warm to a cold climate. Transmissions was funded by donations via Kickstarter. Well, I’d like to thank the 90 people who paid for this project. And with hand outstretched to KOP, I can only say, “Charmed, I’m sure!” (As well as thanking “16 different musicians from five different countries, though at the core of the recording [...]
King of Prussia, the place, is a suburban wasteland near Philadelphia that doubles as the hometown of very pretty girls and America's second largest mall. King of Prussia, the historical figure, figured prominently in the unification of the modern nation-state of Germany along conservative political lines. King Of Prussia, the band, and their single, "Oh Me" operates as one of those love songs

This was supposed to be a productive week, those hours after work. But I ended up doing what any solid music nerd would: procrastinate by going through my records and singles, rediscovering old favorites and discovering new treasures hidden within my collection. We listened to The Smiths on repeat for a few days. I dug out an old single by The Rondelles. I got Andi into Crystal Stilts. And despite all this recounting of the past, of all the listening to albums already in my collection, I [...]
What: Athens, GA outfit King of Prussia layers psychedelia into their indie-pop sound and the video for "Oh Me" fits that sound to a tee with its trippy menagerie of layered vintage clips and swirling colors. The band will self-release their sophomore album, Transmission From The Grand Stand , on April 17th. Directed By: Brian Smith

King of Prussia return with their second LP on April 17th, Transmissions From The Grand Strand . That all sounds simple but the album is actually five years in the making. The driving force behind the band is the Kevin Barnes-esque Brandon Hanick and his journey began back in 2008 in Myrtle Beach. Through our the writing process Hanick has relocated to Spain, enlisted 16 different musicians from five different countries, and somehow landed in in Chicago to set-up camp. It is an incredible journey, a brilliant album, and we are glad to have in Chicago. [...]
Chicago-based psych-pop purveyors King of Prussia are -- and have been -- pretty much all over the map, physically and musically since their 2008 album Save the Scene (described in the band's press release as "critically-acclaimed and commercially-laughable"). Songwriter/frontman Brandon Hanick has been noodling over the songs from the new fan-financed Transmissions From The Great Strand (April 17) for a few years now, moving from Barcelona to Myrtle Beach, S.C. (the area known as "The Great Strand") and then back to The Windy City. Songs were tweaked around the the edges, carefully preparing the [...]

The Procast is so called because this week has been an awfy professional one. The third Meursault album is approaching, and because there are publishers, managers, bookers and all sorts involved in this one we had to have a Serious Meeting about it and make sure the planning was all being done properly. We did all the grown-up stuff like minute the meeting, assign people deliverables and all sorts of stuff. It was the closest to being back at my old job that I have experienced since I left, in all honesty - lists, management, timescales, budget discussions [...]

King of Prussia - The idea of combining pop and country western music may make some cringe, and rightfully so; we've all heard plenty of bad examples of the marriage of those two genres. But indie rock band King of Prussia offers a much more appealing side of just that blend. With laid-back pop hooks and a decidedly country presentation (banjos, slide guitars, etc.), the collective has created a remarkably beautiful three-song EP called The Time of Great Forgetting that I simply can't stay away from for long. From the lovely waltz "Waitin' [...]
Young Sinclairs - "Tribe" (electronically ampli?ed pop-art) 1986 - "Undertow" (featuring members who have played with Bishop Allen, The Rosebuds, The Gutter Twins, Cursive, or Okkervil River) The Heligoats - "Fish Sticks" (delirious art craft and song wit by ex-Troubled Hubble member) King of Prussia - "Waitin' for Something" (country-western indie rock) Sideways Reign - "Oxygen" (part Citizen Cope [...]
In MAGNET's hometown of Philly, when someone says "King Of Prussia," we immediately think of the suburb that's home to the largest shopping mall (in terms of leasable space) in the U.S. That's starting to change a little, at least for those of us into indie rock, thanks to the band King Of Prussia. The [...]

Kicking off this week's new album releases on Groundhog's Day, we have Toro Y Moi's Causers of This , which is a very worthy debut amongst the ever-growing amount of bands coming down the pipe of similar ilk. Also garnering a lot of buzz is Midlake's The Courage of Others , the follow-up to to 2006's The Trials of Van Occupanther . I've yet to hear this one myself, but I did enjoy their previous album to some extent, so I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out soon. [...]
MP3: King of Prussia - "Waitin' for Something Considering that the band shares a name with a town in Pennsylvania, King of Prussia doesn't exactly scream "country western," but this is an experiment of sorts for singer-songwriter Brandon Hanick, who sports the Philadelphia suburb moniker. However, Hanick takes on the genre with his new EP, The Time of Great Forgetting , which is out tomorrow on Kindercore. An MP3 of one of the tracks is available above while the full track list is after the jump. [...]

++Ooh wee..the start of a new work week that includes the premiere of Lost and culminates with the Super Bowl. Would just like to point out that the finale season of Lost coincides with the release of Hot Tub Time Machine. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! Anyway, speaking of coincidences, what are the odds... from the inbox, another song about waiting. (See yesterday's post below). Athens' King of Prussia have released The Time [...]
