Song, by Toad Records hereby release into the world what we reckon is going to become an annual free sampler, mostly as a free download, but with a few CDs given to local record shops and available at gigs as well. The sampler is a combination of things we'll be releasing this year, mixed in with a couple of things from 2011 and interspersed with a few brilliant moments from the late Kenneth Williams' reading of the Wind in the Willows. Snippets from this reading litter my own weekly podcast, and inspired the name of the label in [...]

King Post Kitsch In his quest to continue to give away great music for free, King Post Kitsch really does rule the roost. This week he decided to share a new EP with the world and rather ace it is too, coming in at just under 6 minutes it's a short but sweet trip, but one well worth taking. I am particularly taken with the lead instrumental track, 'Nocturnal Wandering', but as always with these things you don't need to take my word for it, find out for yourself by downloading the EP for free here [...]
This is one of my favorite episodes of the year. I look forward to it and I think that all my anticipation has paid off. I had so much fun putting it together and I think you'll have a lot of fun listening to it! 2011 Artists of the Year ***Featuring*** Dessa Doomtree King Post Kitsch Me First and the Gimme Gimmes New Found Glory NOFX P.O.S. For this podcast I am joined by Ian, who is now a member of the Song, by Toad Records team, to go through a bit of a run-down of what's going to be happening on the label this year. We've got a couple of our more recent releases, like Rob St. John and Lil Daggers, as well as some of our confirmed and ready new albums for next year, by the likes of The Leg, Jesus H. Foxx and Yusuf Azak. I've also got a couple of tracks from bands we'll be releasing on a split [...]

So, they didn't have two of my top 10 (which I posted earlier this month) so I naturally replaced them with Me First and the Gimme Gimmes EP's. This is to vote in the Hype Machine's blogger category for their Zeitgeist 2011 (I love end of year stuff!!)

How the hell did it get to be December 18th already? One week till Christmas!?! Agh! Well, I'm writing this on December 16th and hopefully K and I have gotten a lot done by way of Christmas shopping/prep. Because right now? Not looking so good. But it'll work out. Probably. 5. Wild Flag - Wild Flag A big part of this year, for me, was about female led bands. And one of the best female led bands was Wild Flag. This is a supergroup, but only if you're pretty familiar with the 90's riot grrl scene, which I am not. When I listen to this album, and the same goes for when I saw them in concert, I hear four women IN LOVE with rock and roll. It's refreshing and entrancing. And addictive. Wild Flag - Electric Band [...]
OK, so we've already had the top 20 albums, here we look at the top tracks (that don't feature on the best albums) of the year... It's been a really strong year of releases, with a lot of sifting required, however after much distillation, here we present our top 20... 20: The Strokes - Taken for A Fool [...]

MORE LISTS! Yes, list season continues, as I fight with borderline obsessive compulsive disorder and an overwhelming need to rank things using a system that makes no real sense and changes every ten or fifteen minutes. Two disclaimers best just means my favourite, you are allowed to disagree without either of us being wrong. I've not heard every blooming album released this year. Onward then, to the first batch of my twenty favourite albums of the year. You can find a bunch of other albums I liked that didn't quite [...]

It's the moment you've really not been waiting for, yes folks, it's time for me to share with you all my favourite albums of the past twelve months. I fully appreciate that what I say doesn't really matter all that much and nor should it, but hey indulge me a little. This is now the fourth year that I have found myself compiling these lists. Back in 2008 and 2009 I came up with a Top 50 for each year which just seems insane to me these days. This year I have stuck with a top ten, mainly because I [...]

One of the thrills of pursuing a vegan diet is never having to watch your step. I would say walking on egg shells is probably the fifth most painful thing you could walk on: Most Painful to Walk On: 1. Seashell 2. Nail 3. Fish Hook 4. Human Tooth 5. Egg Shells [...]

Some of you might have noticed that there was a distinct lack of a cover version last Saturday, that was because it was my birthday and I was away visiting my folks. That and I felt that you guys had kind of earned a day off from having to read my ramblings. In case you were wondering I turned 33, which when I type it out it sounds fucking ancient, possibly because it is. When I was younger I always thought I'd act much more mature by the time I was in my thirties, in fact the opposite seems to [...]

Charlie Ward does not do things by halves. First of all, his debut album has been almost two years in the making, and secondly, over that timespan, the King Post Kitsch project has grown from a simple one-man band approach to something relatively more expansive than that. The production is basic, and these ten tracks, spanning 35 rather brief minutes (this really feels a lot shorter than it looks on paper) are potent, proving that songs don't need to be treated to within an inch of their life to sound good. There's plenty to enjoy. [...]

King Post Kitsch I know I have been banging on about King Post Kitsch for a while now and I will continue to do so as his new album is fucking ace. If you still haven't checked him out then head over to Song By Toad where you will find a free download of the excellent ' Fante's Last Stand '. Michael Cassidy First off he records a Peenko Session, then the next thing you know Michael Cassidy is being voted as one of Scotland on Sunday's Eligibles for 2011 . [...]
As summer approaches, you'll see a spike in posts and playlists on IRC, not to mention plenty of new releases. This week's Best New Releases, don't contain any big 2011 anticipated drops, but there are still some terrific singles and albums from bands like Vetiver, Dark Mean, PlanningtoRock, Woods, in our opinion, include fresh albums [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
The Party's Over, the debut album by King Post Kitsch , was released this week and can now be bought from our website , Avalanche Records on the Grassmarket and (as of the weekend) LoveMusic and Mono in Glasgow. As is our habit with this sort of thing we are giving away another free song to mark the occasion: in this case the splendid Fante's Last Stand , which has been played on Gideon Coe's show on 6Music a couple of times this week. Marc Riley also seems to be a [...]
