Cartoon Network's Adult Swim has put together another drool-worthy compilation appropriately titled, Garage Swim . Due out May 6th via William Street Records, and sponsored by Dr. Pepper, the record strings together unreleased songs by Thee Oh Sees, JEFF the Brotherhood, Mikal Cronin, Black Lips, King Tuff, Weekend, King Khan and the Gris Gris, Mind Spiders, Bass Drum of Death, and many more. In anticipation, stream the scuffy dance floor madness of Thee Oh Sees' inclusion, "Devil Again". We stress that you find a greasy wooden floor for this one. [...]

The demand for sweltering garage bashes and skittering guitars has not only encouraged fuzz-pedal enthusiasts to release albums on almost a monthly basis, but to reissue their older, weirder albums. Newfound appreciation has led to this hunger for grungy, piss-stained chords - the dirtier the better. We’re talking about the Bay Area’s Traditional Fools and their self-titled, which dropped in December, and garage darlings Mikal Cronin and Ty Segall, releasing Reverse Shark Attack back in January. For the first time, Vermont native King Tuff' s earliest collection of recordings, the crunching Was [...]

Every time Melbourne based record label I OH YOU throws a party in Sydney town, it's always a real treat. Look back at when they grabbed half of The Drums to man the decks at GoodGod Small Club around their Laneway visit last year. Their DJ set was supported by live performances from Bleeding Knees Club and Sures . Or the time we saw Orlando Higginbottom as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs provide a very colourful and warm set with our very own Flume at Oxford Art Factory? [...]

King Tuff @ BVSXSW 2013 ( more by Bruno Simões ) It's always seemed as though Was Dead kinda came outta nowhere. Even for me, I don't remember writing the songs and I barely remember recording them. I do know that they came from the purest part of my heart and they were made with a mischievous little smile on my face. I think it was 2006. I recorded mostly late at night, in a giant dirty ballroom called Vegetable Street, in my hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont. My days were filled with [...]
King Tuff draws heavily on the '70s glam rock scene but filtered through the ingenius mind of Kyle Thomas. The King is a persona of Thomas, who is also the lead vocalist of the J Mascis side project Witch, freak folkers Feathers, and the power-punk outfit Hunx and His Punx. After the success of the self-titled 2012 Sub Pop release, there was renewed interest in King Tuff’s extremely limited debut, 2008's Was Dead. The 13 tracks on Was Dead take things in another direction and revel in glam and glitter, complete with incessant dance beats and centered around infectious grooves, [...]

'Love' ruled, but the chorus in Palms ' new track is the biggest thing since forever*. (*Andrew Stockdale still making music/ local bands producing video clips in VHS format only/ DJs in tropical shirts.) Thankfully, the loose term can be applied to Red Riders' first album. It's the one that still exists somewhere in a pit of 2006-2007 nostalgia ( Dardanelles , Bit By Bats, The Scare , Young and Restless , Ground Components , Ghostwood , Mercy Arms etc) where I spend time regularly when I feel like hitching the portal [...]

Happy Weed Day, everyone! Though the origins of "4203 aren't quite the stuff of legend (it was not actually police code for marijuana use in progress), it certainly has become the rallying cry of pot smokers and is celebrated daily without anyone's help. But the day 4/20 is likely to raise more blunts, and hopefully more awareness, now given Washington State's more relaxed laws on marijuana possession, use and even purchasing. Of course, not everyone will spend today burning into a peaceful bliss, but you can all enjoy this special "I Got High" video playlist in honor of [...]

“My name is Queen Ashi Dala, and I want to do a public service announcement right now. You may have seen on Facebook that Wayne Coyne would be appearing on stage with us tonight. I want to make it known that Wayne Coyne is actually waiting in line right now for Justin Timberlake tickets .” Goddam it. Saturday had been that kind of day: great music, but a lot of confusion and unplanned gaps in the schedule. Though accident, or my own poor planning, I missed a lot of great bands, perhaps in part so that I [...]

Hey! I'm off to Vegas for a few days. Go outside and play while the site goes on mini-break. We'll back to posting on Sunday. Enjoy. : Minus The Bear - Walk On Air : There's a new video game out called Injustice: Gods Among Us, and this song is off of its soundtrack. I think it's a pretty fun slice of modern rock. The soundtrack, which also features The Faint, Depeche Mode, and a lot more, is available now . : Hooded Fang - Graves : Because time off is for losers, [...]

If news of the New Guantanamo Coachella party didn't get you fired up, here are a few other unavoidable groaners from the week. You had throne-watcher supreme Jay-Z's "Open Letter" over the contrived Cuba trip-White House kerfuffle hype, then your boy RiFF RAFF is slated to guest on the soap "One Life to Live" as a self-referential art slinger named Jamie Franko as a nod to the Spring Breakers actor Alien (whose character was modeled after RiFF by director Harmony Kor...

Download: King Tuff - Bad Thing 'Bad Thing' was one of my favorite songs of 2012 - boasting a classic guitar line and owning all the requisite badness that makes great rock n roll cool - so the pending re-release of King Tuff's Was Dead debut [ pre-order ] comes as welcome news. Here are two highlights, lead track 'Dancing on You' and the fuzzy, slacker anthem 'Sun Medallion.'

La reissue di "Was Dead" di King Tuff viene posticipata. Vedrà la luce il prossimo 28 maggio via Burger Records. Per ingannare l'attesa Kyle Thomas ci regala l'ascolto di un nuovo estratto dal titolo "Dancing on You". TRACK STREAM: King Tuff - Dancing on You pubblicato su Indie For BUNNIES
BREAKING NEWS FROM THE DESK OF KING TUFF: "Unfortunately the release date for the Was Dead reissue has been pushed back due to problems at the manufacturing plant. Employees at the plant were found with their clothes torn off and twigs in their hair, listening to 'Dancing On You' and performing primitive love rituals instead of making records. Sorry for the delay." You heard it, folks. Mass pandemonium and bacchanalian revelry have led to a delay in the production of the hotly anticipated reissue of King Tuff Was Dead, now slated for release on [...]

Scuzzy garage rock enthusiasts King Tuff are following up last year's self-titled album with a reissue of 20062s Was Dead , and if you liked the raucous crunch of " Love Potion ," you'll be happy to know that "Dancing On You" is just as messily carefree and full of life. The Was Dead reissue will be out May 28, and you can listen to two songs from it, and read what Kyle Thomas aka King Tuff had to say about his first record, below. "This album changed my life in so many ways, [...]
